Voted and word spread: But yes, if you have a Steam account, please, PLEASE vote for this. Even if you don't care for the Half-Life franchise, you'll be doing lots of people a massive favour.

I will when I get home later today. It'd be nice to have the mod in a form accessible from Steam.

Incidentally, Half-Life 2 went on sale.

How many votes does Valve require for a game to pass? It's not even 10% now and I think many, many people have voted

Don't think the exact figures are known. But it's been on since half a day and grew 5% since I posted so I don't think it will have any trouble getting to a 100.

But it's a huge, incredibly well-known project. And it struggles to win the Greenlight, which is for smaller indie studios who want to make their games published on Steam. I can't imagine how hard is for them to succeed, looking at BMS's slow progression

10% in about 4 or 5 hours... I don't think that's struggling somehow. It'll probably increase when people return from work in Europe and over in the States.

There is no 'winning' with Greenlight though. Projects can stay on there as long as they want until they either get their 100% or they get pulled off.

Oh. Well considering they need about 52,000 votes apparently and announced it on a weekday when most people have to work, that still isn't bad.

BTW I just remembered: A little while ago, for a laugh, I re-made the Black Mesa trailer in Half-Life Source, using the original sounds and dialogue. Time for a repost!

Original trailer:

It's a shame I lack the software to make a side-by-side comparison, but the sync between the two would be waaaay off anyway.

Oh look, you can use YouTube doubler to play them side by side.

As I said, they don't sync though - I was using the music as queues to change scenes and manually counted the duration of scenes in the original video. Some sync up, most don't. Yay for lacking software. :S

Guess Valve are still testing out the Greenlight process considering it was only 48% yesterday evening... But that's really good news.

EDIT: It's among the first 10 games to be accepted on Steam via Greenlight. Valve has decided that there were enough interest in the top voted games/projects to let them on early.

And it is the remake for the game that put Valve on the map as a company. I think a little favoritisme is in play here

Valve can do whatever they want because what they want has proven over and over to have the interests of the consumer at heart. They may not always get it right, but it's easy to see that they aren't driven by greed.

I can't find the link any more, but they have been playing with the threshold all week. Lots of devs have reported their percentage jumping both up and down and Valve has admitted that it's happening because they're still fine-tuning the details.

Greenlit games will continue to be Greenlit. There used to be a "pending" tier, presumably so people could frantically downvote games that got cheated to 100%, but that no longer seems to be the case.

Yes, in about 2 days, either on Steam, or if that isn't ready by then, via torrents. Xen isn't finished yet 'cause they're completely redoing it from scratch rather than basing it on existing Half-Life levels, so you'll only be able to play up to Lambda Core.

Also:

(Yeah, I know Valve hasn't made BMS. :P)

Oh and speaking of Valve, apparently there's a rumour going around the various news sites that EA tried to buy them in the past out for 1 billion dollars. And Gabe said that he'd rather let Valve disintegrate than be sold out by EA. What a guy.

Seriously though, that'd be the end of good PC gaming if that ever happened. EA just wants to make money, while Valve care about their customer base and listen to their fans. If Gabe ever resigns or dies or something, I hope somebody like-minded takes over from him.

The remastered Xen is an intriguing idea. I've heard many different opinions on the possible flaws of that part, with the most prominent saying that Xen felt a bit rushed and not as chiselled as the previous bits.

When I first saw Xen, it was very disorientating, with the different geometry and lack of symmetry that ruled in Black Mesa, the changed gravity and the constant need of using long jumps to get around. But after getting past the inital shock, it was alright - after all, it was a different dimension, it was supposed to feel like that.

I hope they keep Nihilant though. That part I enjoyed a lot.

That and Valve was estimated to be worth close to 2.5 billion. Even if he was going to sell out, he's not going to do it for anything under the actual market value.
