You should read Havoc's blog post about dolphin sex. The memory of it still gives me nightmares.

Actually that was a blog post by the artist formally known as Kastere.

I merely provided some insight.

I think that if the whale can't be put in the wild, It shoudl just be in a cage with NO shows involving people or else it needs to be put to sleep. I mean, the thing's killed a bunch of people before, and it's going to happen again.

Ow, a sharp blade, well, it cut me four times before but it won't happen again, right?

As for the dolphin sex thing....>shudders<

I stand corrected. And I stand in the corner, refusing to click on that link again.

Then the whales would start fighting and inflicting self-harm due to boredom. They actually need the mental stimulation of learning new tricks.

The same whale has since been used in more shows.

I agree with Nate, animals get bored if caged with nothing to stimulate them. Teaching them tricks and keeping them occupied stops a wave of homicidal killer whales occuring.

Same with people. Would you rather live in a concrete block all day, doing nothing, or live in a concrete block and night and play sports during the day?

Also, orcas are a type of dolphin.

No, no, no - dolphins are whales. So orcas are whales and dolphins.

The killer whale (Orcinus orca), commonly referred to as the orca and, less commonly, blackfish, is the largest species of the dolphin family.

Research fail for Josh.

EDIT: I'm going to start calling it the blackfish from now on and see how many people understand what I'm talking about.

Actually, I just bothered to look up 'dolphin' on Wikipedia, and dolphins aren't whales like I always thought :\

I guess dolphins and whales are different families, belonging to the same order. Oh well. Which means 'killer whales' aren't whales at all O_O

It's a case of everyday language being outside the scope of science to 'fix', like when you casually use the demonic act of possession as an excuse for doing something 'I don't know what possessed me to do that!'.

Once and for all:

All ceteceans are whales, and modern whales are divided into two Suborders: toothed (Odontoceti) and baleen (Mysticeti) whales. There are four superfamilies of Toothed whales: Delphinoidea (which include oceanic dolphins, belugas, narwhals and porpoises; Inioidea, Liptotoidea and Platanistoidea (all river dolphins); Physeteroidea (sperm whales and allies) and Ziphioidea (the elusive beaked whales).

There is no monophyletic classification that can include the other whales while excluding dolphins. That is an arbitrary distinction.

That's what I always thought. And, after looking up 'whales' on Wikipedia, I again think so. On the Dolphin article, it says they're closely related to whales, but on the Whale article, it says that dolphins are actually whales, but not in common usage.

@Nate and his comment for stimulation...
Over at this aquarium I go to sometimes, they stimulate the Octopi by putting food in jars and plastic balls and Mr Potato Heads. For the Stingrays they put in hard shells, fish, and these weird seafood cookies. For the eels they put in tennis balls and stuff liek that. I'm sure that they could find a way to entertain the damn thing.
And if they can't, then they can just put it down.
