:
The enormous quantity of matter that we perceive around us, compared with the trembling little flicker of spiritual insight we perceive within us, seems to tell strongly in favour of a materialistic outlook on life.
:
Man knows at last, that he is alone in the unfeeling immensity of the universe, out of which he has emerged only by chance.
:
Science has revealed much about the world and our position in it. And generally, the findings have been humbling. The earth is not the centre of the universe. Our species descended from brutes. We are made of the same stuff as mud. We are moved by neurophysiological signals and subject to a variety of biological, psychological and sociological influences over which we have limited control and understanding.
:
Our true position [is one] of isolation, in an immense and mysterious universe.

I made a promise to myself a long time ago to have a hard laugh at least once every day.
You have helped me on this front on a regular basis, Mr. Sheils. I thank you.

You misunderstand the purpose of this thread, along with Nate and OANST who do understand but are just being doodoo heads for the hell of it.
Ahhhh, up to no good as usual then.

I actually hate this quote as it makes no sense.

I had been alone till the madman come along
With the knowledge and silver long beard
He was the first man ever teaching how I could be free
Helping me to find - oh - the mind and the soul
They've been trying to hide away...
And he promised we'd help Anna if I'd help him to
go all the way

Go all the way into the world of minds
Open the gate and do not close behind
Prevent them from hiding the light away
Prevent them from tellin' us tales
Or the end of all they scare us with will be a
million empty brains...
My very favourite song lyrics <3

I find that the lyrics of a great many songs seem to be a meaningless conflagration of words arranged in a pseudo-grammatical order that serve no purpose besides justifying the salary of the lead singer. That doesn't stop a song from being one of the greats, but it is one of the reasons I like parodies and songs from musicals, which actually have a topic (and often manage to be about something besides love and/or sex).

It's from an epic song in a fantasy concept album and the part in question sounds like Queen. Of course it's corny.

Also, for obvious reasons lyrics from this album meant a lot to me two years ago.

Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler, the gambler, the back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down

I get that. And believe me, there have been a lot of moments where I have listened to lyrics that had seemed so deep and meaningful to me once, and just made me wonder what the fuck I was thinking.

Edit: As lyrics go, I still really like these.

On the way to god don't know
my brain's the burger and my heart's the coal
I'm trying to get my head clear
i push things out through my mouth i get refilled through my ears
i'm on my way to god don't know or even care
my brain's the weak heart, and my heart's the long stairs
Inland from Vancouver shore
the ravens and the seagulls push each other inward and outward
inward and outward
in this place that i call home
my brain's the cliff, and my heart's the bitter buffalo
my heart's the bitter buffalo
we tore one down, and erected another there
the match of the century: absence versus thin air
on the way to god don't know
my brain's the burger and my heart's the coal
on this life that we call home
the years go fast and the days go so slow

More Modest Mouse from Oanst. How astonishing.

It's pop music. They lyrics don't have to make sense. If I want meaning, I normally just go by own, personal interpretation and I'm satisfied.

Take a look at Frank Zappa. His arrangements are fucking nuts, and his lyrics are quite abstract most of the time, but they mean things. Even "St. Alfonzo's Pancake Breakfast" and "Father O'Blivion". I believe that they were both commenting on how absurd religion is.
