of course I just realised it was December tommorrow!
I guess that also explains the advent calenders that have suddenly popped up around the house.

About those appalling creature called Hickens, I dont think OWI will explain them having females, or breasts, or even the clothes. I just think they wanted some chicken replica, something the players could relate to, and understand the hickens personality... which isn't good imo.

I think Steefs design is quite thooper.

Max said about the whole Native American thing and how the Sals look more like Pigmies but i think that even though they look all Pigmie-ish there'll be an air of conflict between the Hunters and Sals. With Steef being the bad guy.

Hickens look kinda poo.

As does the big hatted thingy.

Sals and Blobs look quite thooper. As does Steef and the things on his left and right.

hmmm, finnally I don't think I do mind thoses clothes to much, I mean, they are quite logic, even if they are copy/paste from the earth, there are no much possibilities for clothes sinces they are made logicly and for practical use, so the cap is quite a logic invention, even on Oddworld...

so no prob for the clothes...

in fact, now I realy look at it, I think the real problem are the Hickens (an maybe the Hat guy, but I have to see more of him)

anyway I will try to wait with an open mind

I think he's absolutely magnificent. Totally fits in with all the original Oddworld species. You're whining about getting an unique, original, odd character, and when you get this, you whine about how ugly it is.
Well alright, I relent, it's not as bad as I made out, but I still think it's poor. Those ears are just... wrong, somehow. Still, it is one monochrome picture with intentional degrading, so I'll continue, as I can assure you I always have been doing, to hope for the best.

And about being open-minded, I am being open minded about the game. I haven't tried to put it down at all, I've been very careful about that. True, I've suggested it may turn out to draw too heavily off Western cliches, but then that's a justified concern isn't it? The appearance of the characters is traditionally very important in Oddworld games, but then saying I don't like their design isn't at all saying I'm not looking forward to the game immensely.

I am aware that I haven't been putting forward much praise about the next game, and I apologise about that - I have been caught up in these small aspects of the game, like you say, but then they are just small aspects of the individual game. I'm also aware I haven't been conveying much excitement, other than disgust, but that in part is due to my own inhibitions. I remember when someone found artwork by Farzad for the Tremors TV series and I got over-excited. In retrospect I felt quite embarassed about it, and have built up a kind of philosophy not to get excited, or it'll hurt me later. Just trust me I am excited, and also that I'm not trying to flame the game.

I hope that you all understand. I just know I'm going to feel embarassed about this post later on.

Here endeth the melodrama, which I also apologise for.

EDIT: I changed my avatar to correspond with how I feel right now.

Do you think the sentient species shown on the card will go under the headers of "Industrial" and "Native". If so, what will Steef be? or any of them, in fact...

That's some real good colourising there... did anyone notice that the guy with the ear has scales... and the main hunter, the tall one... he doesn't strike me as having any resemblance with glukkons (cept the long face), he seems much more slug like.

i agree, possibly one reason he's called the grub hunter, and thanks for the colorising compliment, i would colorise the big grub hunter but im not sure what colour he is.

By the way, I just noticed your OddBlog uJournal in your sig. Very, very cool...I wish I would've noticed it earlier.

I want to start one up to document my progress on the Oddlympics and the flash webgame...but when I go to create an account, it says I need some account activation code from someone who already has a journal. Could you email me one? It says for you to go here. If you could do this for me, that'd be great. My email address is bighead2005@aol.com . Thanks!

Wow! A lot has happened since I left to go holiday shopping. Anywhoo, I noticed that our Salamanders and Karate Blobs look very similar. Maybe same species? The lips and eyes are almost exact. It just looks like blobs have a weight problem, or that their fat-ness is some sign of power that makes them different from the Salamanders. Obviously the Slals look scared, while the Blobs just ooze, "Bring it on!"

according to the official site and especially the new DDo I doubt they lay eggs

Because of massive speculation as to whether the female gender even exists in Mudos, experts have been called in to research the situation more fully. "What do I have to do, lay an egg?" was the defendant's only response

I think that meant they do lay eggs Maybe I'm wrong.
After reading the Lorne Interniew, it seems I was right about the hickens in the top post of this thread.

quoted from lorne:
:
The "Clakkerz" (chicken like characters you mention) are intended to be annoying and funny in the game, and so we wanted to have fun with them in this respect and we felt that worldly chickens where quite annoying and funny and we wanted to play off of that familiarity while placing them into a completely unique context.

I read that as they do lay eggs, too. Also note the Classads:

:
Wanted: Rotund Feathery Fella Seeks Rotund Feathery Female For Light Nest-Keeping and Romantic, Dimly Lit Meals. Must Enjoy Bein' Outside and Talkin' Bout Stuff. No Eggs.
Why add no eggs if they don't lay eggs?

But then, why would they have dimly lit meals? I only just noticed this bit this evening. OWI, please let that be a throw-away piss take. It's funny in itself, but seeing romance on Oddworld would be like seeing a time machine or skateboard rink.

Oh wait, we have seen skateboards. Damn.

Well I was very happy today that I finally got my Christmas card! I really liked how they put the little christmas song/poem in the card this year. I also liked, the fact that Alf personally signed the card.

At first I thought it was printed, but I noticed it was signed in actual red pen.

The more I see of the new characters, the more I liek their garments. The hats are awesome. A different stlye, yet nostalgic in the decorum of the figures. lovely frowns and smiles all around.

subconscious stream of thought.

Add this card to the collection. Hey Alf, we need more poetry by you, pal!

I believe the "No Eggs" was simply meant to be read as "No Bull" or "No Bullshit". Because, seeing as the article refers to the Clakkerz, and the Clakkerz are chicken-like, "eggs" would be a perfect substitute for Earth's common cliche: "No Bull".

I actually thought the "No Eggs" meant no kids. You know, like he wanted a relationship wit ha female clakkerz, but he doesn't want her to have any kids to bring along, because maybe he hates kids or something. It's quite common here on Earth. But I dunno, I could be wrong. Just a thought.

that "No eggs" thingy is rather strange
at first I tought it was a info bit: Clakkerz lay no eggs
but the "no children" or "no bull" theories are also quite good
I don't know what to think

Elaborating on the no children idea, the no eggs could literally mean "No eggs", meaning they don't want their potential partner to bring any eggs along, that will eventually hatch, and grow in babie, then adult clakkerz. I think this seems more likely, because otherwise I think it would say, no chicks/children or whatever their called.

She was removed from adminship, there was a big Forum outrage, and everyone effectively split into three - those that stayed on, those that left to join Sydney at her new forum, The Glass Asylum, and those that frequented both places. I was in the second group, then I joined the third. Now I'm in the first. It's all sorted now, though. You'll see Sydney pop back every now and then, not usually in General Discussion.

:

What do you mean by that? The original design for the Fuzzles was great, then we ended up with balls of fur, meaning they were incredibly simplified, but I'm pretty sure the design of the salamanders has done the reverse since we last saw them a few months ago, become a bit more realistic and tangeable. Or do you mean they may possibly be used to create an 'aaaahh' factor?

Khanz came up with the idea of the blobs possibly being Mudflubs, but that remains to be seen. The game does involve a river, for sure, which is where Mudflubs live, and they are highly fat, which would suit FlubCo Fuels just fine, so very possibly. If that's true, it would mean there was going to be another sentient race going to appear in Munch's Oddysee, which is a very interesting concept. Or imagine those creatures oozing about it the Reservoir Row level.

:

While I'm not at all familiar with those characters, I understand what you're getting at. When I saw him on the card, he struck me as being perhaps one of those rather eccentric businessmen or town authorities that just go a bit doo-lally and screw things up for all the good folk. Maybe it is him who is running these box stores, and when the Stranger tries to interfere, he decides to eliminate the threat. Maybe. But I love that term... "Quik Draw." It seems so appropriate.

EDIT: Oh yeah, the eggs theory. I was going to post at school, but Mr Hill closed F1 down before the page could load, damned slow school computers. I'd read the "No eggs" line exactly as Mac did. It's just like a human partner not wanting to try and get together with someone with kids, or who's pregnant. I don't buy Alcar's "No bull" idea, especially since I've never come across that term, although I see exactly where he's coming from. No pranksters, basically. I go with my first thoughts, crossed with it being a clue that Clakkerz reproduce sexually and lay eggs, crossed with OWI rubbing it in that there are female Clakkerz.

i dont find the Karate Blobs being the kind of species that would simply get captured and squeezed for their fat, they seem much to mystical and....well....powerful to say the least. They would defineately put up a fight. Besides, i see Mudflubs being like slurgs; low, low, dull, and exeptionally boring lifeforms that are pretty brainless and just captured without a fight. I mean, if i were as smart as those Karate Blobs appear, i wouldn't be living in muddy rivers.

Something about their expression....
Did you see the movie Ice Age? The organisms frozen in the ice seemed to have something in common with Sid the sloth-seemed to form a sort of 'evolutionary ladder'.

The Yogi bear show had those- Maybe unfamiliar to people here- man it makes me feel OLD.
We'll see what they do with it. If things are too cartoony- it'll be like seeing Roger Rabbit in a Star Wars movie...Come to think of it- Jar Jar came pretty close.
