Agreed. Those who "tell" people they are spamming are really just spamming themselves. As are those who are constantly trying to defend themselves by saying "I don't spam".

I don't have a problem with people telling people that they are spamming, but do it in a constructive manner. I remember before Alcar became a mod he used to tell people not to spam by sending them a PM. This is one way to do it, and it doesn't clog up the forums with unwanted posts. I have sometimes in the past told people not to spam, but I will also contribute to the topic by including relevant discussion on the topic's subject (although this probably isn't the best way to do it, as it still leaves the forum with "don't spam" comments).

In the past I have gone around deleting spam posts which I see (and still do so), but people's responding to them makes it difficult as you have to not only delete the spam post, but also all the people who are telling the person not to. And sometimes before I even get a chance to delete the posts in question, the whole topic has already turned into a mess.

The best way to contribute towards towards the spam issue is to ignore the spammers. Don't reply to their spammy comments. Don't tell them off. Just move on and get back to the topic. If they are ignored, they won't get any attention. The staff can then come along later and delete the spam post.

I don't know exactly why, but having post counts made things more fun. It seemed to motivate me to reply to topics I might otherwise overlook. I didn't think less of people with low post counts anyway. I posted more often, but I never spammed really. Everyone is basically the same now and we all blend in a little too well. I enjoyed seeing how I compaired to other members, how we all stacked up. I knew who was a reliable member and who I might not be able to trust as well as others, such as a newbie to the forums who I don't know well. A lot of newbies (not all of them) lately are not here to stay, therefore less likely to be an insiteful member at the time. I don't know why people think spam is so bad at the moment. I don't understand why some people will reply to someone who just spammed as if it really annoyed the person. This is the internet you know... we should consider ourselves lucky. Either way I don't see how this will limit spammers, we still have stars and ranks.

I could be wrong though; I usually am.
