I don't get what's so controversial about the fact that people earn a living on YouTube. What's wrong with people actually enjoying their job?

Because it's not classed as a "real job" to some people. Whatever a "real job" means. It's something new and people can't seem to understand how making videos online can be classed as a job. It's a very close minded way of thinking about it.

People just assume that they make crap videos with very little effort and get payed for it. Whilst hard working people do more and earn little in comparison. Whilst in reality, people who are big YouTubers are actually really hard working, dedicated and actually work more hours than most jobs out there.

It's a stupid argument which only makes you come across as jealous or just petty. The people who are big YouTubers got into it by luck. Sure a lot of it dedication too but and only a small fraction of people actually ever make it big enough to make it their job. So I really don't think it's worth discussing why "it's not a real job".

Also god forbid people actually enjoy their job. I guess that's what a real job is. You need to hate it and resent the world because you have it.

And as for TB. He puts up with so much unneeded crap. yes he has said some controversial things and maybe it's just because you don't like his videos or his sense of humor. But in the past but in no way can you say he's a bad guy. He just tries to make things right within the gaming industry and sheds light on topics which need covering.

I don't get it. Whatever the reason why, I just think he gets way too much hate.

TotalBiscuit? More like TotalArsewipe. Jim Fucking Sterling, Son, on the other hand, is an all-round fab dude.

What has TotalBiscuit done exactly to receive all of the hate he gets? I've never seen anything from him so I'm not for him or against him, but I've seen a lot of people complain about him, but never an explanation or reasoning as to why.

TB is superb, he's rational, looks at problems from different angles, and makes hell lot of valid points.

Seems like TB and Jim don't fight each other. Case closed, nothing to see here.

TotalBiscuit has over 2mln subscribers on yt, with that guy having petty 259,069, I'd still say he's pretty nobody.

Plus I have heard about TB, and I did not about that guy.
Jim was reviews editor for Destructoid for a number of years, and hugely influenced the direction of the site. He went to The Escapist for a year or so, but left for various reasons and went independent, now running The Jimquisition via Patreon.

In certain circles he'll be better known for his podcasts - PodToid, The Podcastle, The Dismal Jesters and Fistshark Marketing are pretty much all fantastic, as is his current games podcast The Podquisition.

Plus, he's in my game.

Back to the matter at hand, I want that figure :v

There's nothing controversial about earning a living from Youtube. You, and Crashpunk completely misconstrued that entire conversation.

But no, it isn't a "real job." Nothing creative is. That doesn't mean that it isn't worth while to do, or that it doesn't take effort, but basically, if you love doing it, it isn't a job. My objection was only ever making Youtubers out to be these great martyrs who are deeply important people, doing the Lord's work, while the rest of us, who took more realistic routes to ensure a home for our children, are told that we lack their bravery. That is what I objected to.

And I never said that Youtubing was your personal dream, Varrok.

Then yeah I pretty much agree with everything there, besides the "if you love doing it, it isn't a job" part. I think it's a job if you're earning money from doing work, no matter what the work is or whether you enjoy it or not.

I can just imagine your world:
OANST goes to work. He hates is, obviously, that's what makes his job legit. While walking, he sees some garbage men packing garbage into a garbage car.
"Yarr, It's so good to still see hard-working people with real jobs in this world, ya know!"
One of the men replies: "Yeah. Some people hate doing work like that, all dirty and they find it unrewarding, but I, on the other hand, genuinely want to help people with their trash problems. I love my job!"
"...I wasn't talking about you. Just the other guys."

***

OANST returns home after work. He sees *instert_random_family_member_here*.
"How are you today?" he asks.
"Angry and frustrated. I hate my job." he grunts
"You've been like that for a long time. Maybe you should start think about taking a job you'd actually like to be doing?"
"What? No! You're missing the point! I *need* to hate it." says OANST and sits by his TV.

***

As he's watching TV, he hears about a scientist who invented a cure for a dangerous disease. He did it by connecting some unusual chemical and biological compunds. He really thought out of the box.

OANST just couldn't take it anymore. He stood up and started shouting:
"GET A REAL JOB, YOU MORON!"

I misunderstood that part. It's okay, though, I forgive myself, too. We all make mistakes.

I'd also buy the shit out of that. That'd be so cool to have.
I second (or third?) that motion. I would also much like to acquire such a figurine. :P
