"The argument that should be made here is this: you shouldn't be able to have the child if early tests show that the child will be mentally disabled to such a degree that they need care for the rest of their life. One could argue that is for the parents to decide, but most often the parents are the least fit to make a decision like that due to emotional attachment (especially the mother). They would happily have the child, collect health benefits for taking care of it and spend society's money on something that is not benefiting anything for anyone ever."

I honestly don't know if I agree with this now, haha. My initial proposal was rocked a little bit when a woman who was ranting at me said that her brother's severe disability inspired her and her father to do more for charity. And I'd totally agree with that. When people have a kid like the one's described, they suddenly do enormous good.
However, eventually the disabled (of all shapes and sizes) will be non-existent. With science advancing in such a way that we can now pinpoint genetic disorders and diseases, it won't be long before we're reading about the disabled in history books or watching documentaries about how they used to live in the wild.
Sorry, not sorry.

"He comes back once or twice a year to espouse a ridiculous, and callous idea so that he can get a rise out of people?"
|
A 'rise'? Are you kidding me? Do you honestly think I sit down and think 'wow, I really wanna SHOCK people into a debate'? If I want to do that I'll use Twitter, thanks. No, no. Whenever I come back to the forums it's to propose an idea or a theory that I'm curious about just to get the general feel of the topic and people's perceptions on it. Like I've said before - the forums have quite a few intellects, so I like to mull shit over with them. It's interesting.
:
"Fucking hell. This has to be his worst one yet."
|
Be patient, young one. There is still time for worse.
:
"So actually, OANST, whether Jacob is being a moron on purpose (and we know he is) or not, this type of hate spouting shit actually does hit close to some people."
|
Oh, fucking cry me a river.
"Let's not have any discussion that might upset people. People's feewings are important."
Christ almighty, if we're going to play the 'HEY I HAVE A RETARD IN THE FAMILY' card I'll play mine - I have a half-brother who's handicapped (I only see him when I go down to the basement, which I rarely do, so it's fine) and a cousin who's so fucked up physically that he can't control his own body.
I am sick to death of people playing 'Top Trumps: Tragedy' edition. If it hits so close to home then your opinion is invalid, you tool. Jeez. People don't ask the parents of murdered kids their opinion on child killers because they're super aware that the answer will be chained to emotion. So they politely ignore them. Which should be done to you, too.
:
"But hey if they round up all the retards then at least we won't have to listen to Havoc any more heyooo~"
|
I like your wit. You will be spared in the next cull.
:
"oh, Jacob. of course the mentally handicapped aren't useless. for example: there are some who would fall into the mentally handicapped category who have photographic memory's, to the point where they can look at a landscape for a few seconds, leave and then recreate the image exactly as they saw it down to the last detail. anything, in fact. just as long as they saw it once."

Did you read anything I put or did you automatically assume I meant autistic kids (who totally rock, by the way! ...usually in a corner...reciting numbers) and kids with aspergers? Please re-read. Please keep your knees from jerking. Kthx.
:
"If we're talking about actual vegetables then there's an argument to be made. But the guardians do have to permit it."
|
Obviously. I'm not talking about getting a giant net and going Downs Hunting, hahaha. And the guardians won't permit it. Like I said - the emotional attachment is too great. But that is the issue, I think. We can't live in a world dictated by emotion. We shouldn't. If we did there'd be public executions, mass killings and worse. It's best to just...take a step back.
:
"You seem to forget that human beings are emotional organisms and a lot of those emotions concern family. You're trying to take a sterile zero-sum approach and thus dismiss any arguments that have even a whiff of emotion. But in doing so you make a grave error: a society that does not consider the emotional health of its citizens is a broken one. Have you considered the possibility that being able to take away particular individuals from their families whenever they are deemed unfit to live may do more harm to society than good? What lengths might people go to keep such family members hidden? What mistakes might be made by the authorities? What social environment does this breed? What long-term effect might such unilateral action have on the surviving family members and thus the society in which they continue to live?"
|
Hahaha. I honestly didn't think of any of that shit...and it's purely 'cos I'm thinking from a logical point of view. I totally see your arguments, though. I do think you'd end up getting little Anne Franks squirrelled away somewhere writing their diaries in drool on their bibs.
I just wanted to see what others thought of the idea from a logical perspective. Like, what are the logic-driven reasons to be against it. And there are none, it seems. Everything hinges on people's emotion, which personally I don't put much stock in to.
And you can argue the 'slippery slope a cometh' all you want, but if we bought into that bullshit we'd've stopped lady folk from voting.
"Women?! VOTING?! What next?! Niggers being equal?!"
*Time passes*
"WHAT? YOU WANNA DO WHAT? But he's my nigger! I ow...fuck you! FUCK YOU! The next thing you'll be saying is they can get married to whites!!"
*Time passes*
"You want to do what with the races? Allow them to mix?! Motherfucker. This is just ludicrous! Next you'll be saying fags can be fags! That they can do their faggy thing and get married!"
...etc.
People will always fight progress.
:
"Have you...ever actually met or interacted with a handicapped or developmentally disabled person? It doesn't really matter, what you're putting forth is disgusting and lazy thinking."
|
What the Hell does that matter? I answered your question earlier. I hate that reasoning - 'w-well maybe i-if you just looked after one you...um, maybe you wouldn't want to kill them so much'.
I've interacted with a few guys who've been in prison...they were swell. I totes think it's super mean to put anybody in jail. We totes shouldn't do that. Jail should be outlawed.
:
"I dread to think of the type of society that would be formed from your judgement jacob. However 'valid' your argument may seem, it is an extremely cruel way of dealing with human beings. They may be vegetables but they are still human beings and will most likely have emotional ties with someone. Maybe not on their end but by their families. Taking them away from their loved ones for "the greater good" would be an incredibly heartless thing to do."
|
Like I said earlier - the time of Jacob is coming. Slowly but surely. Soon there'll be no disabled people in the world. Bwahahaha! ...etc.
