They didn't change the geometries of the areas!
Well, when I get a capture card, I'll just work on my speedrun some more, and maybe others could help me out with some problems that I've had for some time! :?

I did fix a bunch of the problems, unfortunately it was just a bit late in the day to fix everything, and your list was very long lol

Don’t think of it as “not fixing bugs”, think of it as “legacy support for speedrunners”.

To think that I could've made the list sometime around the beginning of August, when I had first learned about the tricks, but my little brother told me to keep the tricks a secret until I got a capture card to show them off with. If I had fully listened to my brother, the game would've been out before I could've shown anything to anyone. I don't think that many people care enough about speedrunning this game, though, so I doubt that these geometries will matter to anyone else but me (at least for now. :?)

I think, if nothing else, you've shown a real talent for QA. You should look at putting in applications to game QA companies, we wouldn't have any problem with you mentioning that you helped us with SWHD on your CV or at interviews and stuff.

Also I've just been informed that I may have not responded to your e-mail regarding a similar matter. I thought I had. I'm going to go dig it out now and reply.

If only I could have made it in AS3
what did you have to do it in? AS2?

also what benefits do you see in AS3 over 2? surely its all .play .stop commands?

also it looks so much better in motion!

ooo I should slap your face. AS3 is a pretty powerful language you know.

.stop() and .play() isn't that useful when you're not making an animation.

The menus had to be made in AS1, which is a huge pain in the arse. It's like being given a spoon and told to clean out the Thames.

I never made the jump from AS2 to AS3, when it came out I went down the 3D / animation route.

last thing i did was this:
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/313870

I'm not against AS3 it just seems like it was making extra work for people. what point did you get into flash stuff? did you cross from AS1/2 to 3? or have to learnt 3 and had to backtrack into 1?

also why did you need to use AS1 for SW? is it another engine limitation like the Maya 4 plugin issues.

I dabbled in flash years and years ago during the AS1 days. Got back into it during my last year at uni and learnt AS3 to a pretty high level.

For this I pretty much had to go back and learn AS1.

AS3 is a much more well structured language than AS2, it functions as a truly OOB.

And all for naught, because once we deployed the software we realised that there was no reason for them to ever resize the window. Sigh.

Unfortunately, that nice style of lovingly pre-rendered letters had to be replaced with just flat letters : /

All these other people just wont understand the heart ache of making something look much worse so that it functions very slightly better in a very specific situation.

I actually never knew there was an AS1, it's so unknown I thought they started counting at 2.

Can I just say, that it's wonderful that Glitch has taken out the time to actually approach the fans and see what they want from the games. So often the fans wants and needs are ignored in favour of a developers ego

(a George Lucas quote springs to mind "I don't make films for the fans, I make the films I want to see")

It's really great that JAW have given us the opportunity let our voices be heard from within the franchise now. I love the Oddworld Fan community and I hope this sort of fan/creator relationship continues to remain strong in the future.

Far too kind. Reason franchises like this stay around for companies to pick them up is because of die hard fans who keep the candles burning.

Approaching the fans can be a double-edged sword. Props to JAW for communicating with the fans, but there’s a point where asking the fans becomes pandering. I hope Oddworld doesn’t end up on the wrong side of that line.

There’s something to be said for sticking to your own creative opinion, by the way. George Lucas is a bad example, but plenty of artists make things for themselves and are outstanding at what they do.

I like the original trilogy (comparitively), but Lucas wasn't the reason they were as good as they were. In fact, almost every idea Lucas came up with was drastically changed or flat-out rejected by the producers, studio executives, and even some of the actors. Why? Because they were fucking bad ideas.

If Lucas had his way, Luke Skywalker would have been an old man with a robot head, Han Solo would have been a dinosaur man, and C-3P0 would have been a sleazy, racist huckster.

If you want an idea of what Star Wars would be like if Lucas got his way on every creative decision, watch episodes I-III. They're fucking awful. Basically what I'm saying is, Lucas is credited with creating one of the biggest cultural/cinematic masterpieces in film history... but in reality, he deserves less than half that credit.

Anyway, back on topic...
