It is opinion but expressed in a rather inappropriate excessively agressive manner...

I'm not attacking him I'm attacking the jewelry.

It doesn't suit him.

Something like leather lace and perhaps ball chain would look good on him though.

Hmm, maybe dark blue skater jeans, black duffs trainers, and a black hoody. Maybe some black PVC wristbands, more ball chain, and spikey link stuff of course. Perhaps a spiked wristband, and definately a sweatband of some sort.

That would really suit you.

Yeah... but he guy likes 70's love bead style chokers!

He's the one wearing them... and besides it looks good on him...

What you're describing... is too... too... hardcore...

I don't think it would suit and then he'd be alienating himself from non alternative, non skater birds... not a good idea really limiting you dating pool... innit?

Not really... I've gone out with "non skater birds" before. They never had any problems with it.

Indeed, not looking "skaterish" might alienate him from skater types...

And we ALL love skater types.

They may not have problems now... anyone can knock around in a park necking cider but when you get older... how you dress depicts where you can socialise and drink!

Hense there are specific rock bars and rock clubs in most major towns and cities!

Dressing a certain way means that you can't go anywhere other than "RockCity" Manchester or "Rock@Arena" or "Trillians" Newcastle without the fear of getting a kicking for having blue hair, a pierced septum and a penchant for ladies long gloves!

No lady is wanting to go to a non-alternative club and worry about her beau getting his head kicked in or worse her being ridiculed!

I don't condone it but thats life! Hense I no longer dress like I belong to the scene!

I dress like what I suppose you would call a "skater" and I can't stand drink, smoke, or drugs. I don't like hanging out at rock bars, I much prefer drum and bass venues, and laid back clubs.

I don't dress like this because I wish to be a part of the skater culture, I dress like this because it's how I like to look. **** cultures man, I'm 22 I don't need people telling me how to dress.

Same thing its a "certain type of venue"... innit! They have a relaxed dress code... try getting into a fashionable bar bistro on Newcastle quayside for a meal with your "none skater" partner dressed in "skater" style and you'd find the only thing you'd be eating is MacyD's!

[QUOTE

So no one else is wearing the same vans as you? The same benny's jeans? Do you have a wallet chain? Have you ever sprayed your hair blue? You're telling me that you don't wear the "uniform" of a skater!

Hah! Bulls**t! clothing is all about culture fool... in teenage years and early 20's a feeling of belonging is important.. you follow a certain music, go to certain clubs, you DRESS A CERTAIN WAY!

Even as you get older its the same... your clothing has to reflect your life, position and conform to those around you...

For example.. Personnel managers/directors wear suits! But he/she won't wear one on a weekend but (generally) they won't go out in black PVC with a dog collar because its not "seemly" for a person in their position!

If I go back to the saturday rock/alternative night to see my old friends, as a teacher and FE college worker I wouldn't dress as I once did... full on skater! As I have a position to uphold! But I wouldn't roll in in my pink diesel shoes, pink ted baker top and grey conran jeans... I'd wear similar styles but in black! For conformity but also because the place is filthy (rock venues always are!) and black is the best colour to wear!

Tastes change, people change and usually most people will eventually roll out of the rock/alternative club at 3am and think "do I really want to date someone with more metal about their person than someone wearing armour, hair that matches the grass in my garden, and pants like sails!!!! Will this person EVER BE ABLE TO HOLD A JOB DOWN and stop tapping me for 20's?".... the deafening answer is NO!

And honey if you're 22... you've gotta get me the youth elixiar you bathe in every night!!!... You could at least use pictures of your older brother to post on here!

No. No no and no.

If a restaurant turned me away because of my clothing then they would be in SERIOUS legal trouble. It's against the law to turn people away because of their ethnicity, race, gender, background, financial status, or lifestyle choice.

Also, I do not deny that I look like a skater. But I am not "A skater". I don't even skateboard. But having said that I do snowboard. I don't need a culture telling me how I should dress and what I should do. I'll dress like a skater and read a book on physics thanks, **** the skatepark.

And yes I do look younger than I am - which DOES make it hard for me to get into venues, but I have ID and prove my age.

And beleive it or not, I am a major stock investor. I currently have 1.8 million UK pounds invested in various interests, and it's growing by the day - but I still work, and I hold down my job very nicely thankyou.

I don't wear Vans but really, I don't care. I don't care if someone else is wearing the same clothes I do. Just as long as the ones I'm wearing suit me. So long as you buy manufactured clothing, there will be someone else somewhere in the world who is wearing the very same thing. Unless you make all your clothes yourself, you'll never be completely unique.

You have to at least understand that.

If a venue states ROAR... right of actual refusal... on their flyers etc etc theres not much you can really do unless its due to race...

Large groups of drunken males, those considered under age without ID, people not following dress codes and even people who are considered fat (been there!!!) can all be turned away!

:

Sorry we have crossed wires here... when I say you're a "skater" thats what I actually mean... you wear the "uniform" of that cultural group...

14-25 males/females into alternative music (including D&B) free speech and power to the people! Wearing baggy jeans chains and fubu!

:

S**t man! I should lay off of the booze! If you're 22 I could be you're grandma... Jesus! Now I know why I get turned away from clubs!!!!!

Sorry mate... but... God...looking that youthful now must be a drag... but 20 years time... you'll be f**king gorgeous you'll be 42 but look about 30 or summit!!!!

Do you have a face full of metal? Is your hair green?... NO! You're not an extreme case and I'm sure you have intelligence enough (from what I've read of your posts I'm impressed anyway!... but wouldn't take much to out intelligence me! ) to realise that when going for interviews the guy in the suit is more likely to employ another guy in a suit!

Its the whole... conformity issue again... like I stated above... there comes a time when you realise... my long hair/ devil horn gelled hair/lip piercings/ flesh tunnels (those things always make me queezy!) are no longer needed where I'm at, where I'm going, or where I'd like to be... infact its holding me back.

You, and I reckon everyone else who posts here, realises this just as I did... and change appearance accordingly until eventually you don't change back.. unless its a reunion of old mates or reliving the good old bad old days!

It was meant as one of those "mature" warning pieces I do actually... in a kinda... strange backward.. i know what I'm saying... no one else does way

Fubu, yuck, brightly coloured shiny pimp niggah shit. Not my style at all.

There is a guy next door that waxes his hair flat to his head in curtains, has a triangle of facial hair under his lip, has really red cheeks, and wears all that stupid fubu crap - and he looks like a total idiot.

Oh and by the way, D&B isn't alternative - it comes under the electronic genre, and is part of dance music. It evolved from a combination of hip hop, house, techno, and hardcore (1992 - aciiiid!).

I also like ambient, experimental, electro, avante garde, and many forms of music that you wouldn't expect me to.

Like it or not, I can't be cornered into any culture - my tastes cover a wide range of cultures.

Yeees! but there's still few venues play it on a Saturday night (In Newcastle (8th party city of Europe.. i know of three... one being The telegraph... my haunt!) ... so in the social scene sense its alternative!
