Multiplayer doesn't have to be a part of the story line. So we shouldn't worry about stuff not making sense in multiplayer.

Maybe there could be multiple game modes for single and multiplayer.

Last time I checked, other games have game modes as well. Multiplayer in COD and HALO does not affect the story line depending on which game mode you choose.

Oddworld is heavily story based though. It's not a video game with a story, it's a story told as a video game.

Play as 2 terrorist mudokons shutting down minor industrial facilities or something in co-op, with some story, go. Co-op would be nice certainly as I've said but I don't get why it has to be THAT "competitive", so much that it eliminates story like CoD and Halo. You can make it competitive with time trials/challenges or whatever in Oddworld, but as a seperate mode, same with the singleplayer. You can say it's like Portal 2 but many games do this. Leaderboards where people can try to beat other people at speedruns/mudokons rescued and whatever else there might be. Then again you could also have achievements for that; why not have both? Already been discussed but I think it's the best way.

Just an opinion, anyway. It'd certainly help and I don't see what is wrong with making an Oddworld game appeal to people who like to play co-operatively; twice the fun, or people who like to apply challenge to what they do.

I have a hard time imagining any of the Abe games as a competitive game. Fun fact though, Stranger's Wrath was originally going to have a deathmatch mode for 2 or more players.

Stranger's Wrath I can see being Muiltplayer, The Abe games though I cannot.

Being able to play online in Stranger's Wrath would be capital. Design your own custom outlaw or bounty hunter and duke it out.

I still think however that the Abe games should stick with a singular campaign. Additional time trials and co-op missions wouldn't improve the game. They may even detract from the overall "interactive story" feel. When you think about it, there's already time trials, such as the Board Room. I suppose you could give an achievement for completing it within a certain time frame.

Like Liji said, it's a story told as a video game, an interactive movie. No HUDS, no collecting, no game-overs. Don't let it get too gimmicky!

Oh well, I'll speedrun/break the HD version of the game by myself when it comes out then. It wasn't so much the competitive aspect as much as it would have been slightly cool but whatever.

I know, I guess that's one of the annoying parts about 2 player. I barely die in the games, so it's best not to play 2 players with someone who's very experienced.

2 player works very well when you got 2 people who have no clue what their doing, but wanna take turns trying to solve the puzzles. That way the controller gets passed about every 2 minutes or so and the fun never stops.

I think in these modern times we can overcome the limitation of limiting both players to just one screen of the game; so people can be on two different screens at once. It's not like you're going to be playing with random people, so who's there to piss you off?

I hated the "multiplayer" (if you could call it that) in AO. Better off picking singleplayer and just handing the controller around.

You ppl have no faith in game developers -_-... You can't say multiplayer clearly doesnt belong in this game. Any game could incorporate multiplayer if done right.

How's this sound?: Single player is only available first, and multiplayer is unlockable, the reward for saving all 99 mudokons. And by multiplayer, I'm sticking to what I said before about the 2nd player being able to control a slave mudokon once Abe has said 'Hello' to them (maybe not any slave mudokon, but certain ones.

In Portal 2 your friend can troll you by putting portals under you, removing the bridge you were standing on, pushing you into acid, overwriting a portal just before you slam into the wall tile it was on, pointing lasers at you, pressing buttons when they shouldn't be pressed, trapping you in excursion funnels, dropping objects on your head, frantically using the 'shrug' gesture...

... It's all part of the fun. And trust me, I can think of far more frustrating things to do to your friend in Abe multiplayer. We have lever-operated meat saws for a reason, you know...

This is basically what I meant. Maybe not the combo of Abe and Alf but hey why not. If you thought I meant during the flashback (why would I ever mean that) then I guess I confused you.

See above. Most people here will agree the two-player mode in AO/AE was shoehorned and kind of stupid anyway. I play Oddworld solo, which makes sense, since I'm playing one solitary hero on a journey.
