Maybe it's the nostalgia talking but AE never felt rushed to me, let alone it feeling like a bad sequel. In fact AE improved on AO in so many ways, I consider AE the better game by miles. Maybe Lorne didn't like the game story wise, but other than that he has no reason to be ashamed of it IMO.

Story wise, the game does a great job expanding the Oddworld Universe. Showing how large the Magog Cartel was, who else was in charge, how many other mudokon tribes there were, and of course how certain companies get their supplies and ingredients.
Still, I kinda prefer the three act structure Oddysee had going for it. It was a nice cohesive story that didn't need too much dialogue and used a lot of visuals and symbolism to its advantage. (Not that Exoddus didn't do this, I just like how Oddysee does it.)
On the gameplay front, Exoddus improves Oddysee by miles. No questions asked.
