One of my friends is certain in his conviction that The Comedian is the only person in the story who does anywhere near the right thing for anything approaching the right reasons.

Discuss.
Your friend is an idiot. Partly because the Comedian was a tremendous asshole apart from his Vigilantism and partly because The First Night Owl did everything for all the right reasons.

I still don't really get Dr. Manhattan, he allows himself to be turned into a weapon then expresses concern for what scientists might do with his power, remember when he and Laurie were talking to Veidt? Unless that was before Vietnam, I'm pretty sure it wasn't though.

I never understood how people could defend the Comedian, he was unwavering in his beliefs you could say, thinking that all people are savage deep down and would destroy themselves eventually. Comedian was a dirt bag no question but was Adrian any better? There are days we all agree with Comedian, that all people suck, but we make the choice to refrain from violence, the Comedian to me is just a guy who has completely given up, you could argue that he tragically fell from grace but I'm waiting for someone to explain to me how he was noble because I've heard that too.

You know, Nite Owl was probably the most functional of any of them, the only really screwed up thing he did was attack that gang member out of blind rage, other than that I liked him he was like a nerd with muscles.

Nite Owl 2 wasn't didn't really do anything wrong either, except maybe get back into vigilantism just for the kicks.

There is actually a pretty fascinating article about the morality of the different characters of Watchmen. Here is a link: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Why+am+I+having...comic+books%3F

Wow, really? I mean, I know you think Alan Moore is a douche and all, and god knows this conversation has nothing to do with a book or anything (and let's be honest, it's not like this is the only thread dedicated to literary discussion) but I'd like to think we're allowed to throw our opinions out here and there. I mean, I love being a judgemental fruitcake as much as the next guy, but it seems out of place here.

Who watches the Watchmen? I do. Within the next few days or so. Tell me, how well-potrayed is the ending? Don't get into details, just a simple evaluation will suffice.

They canonize Viedt as the main villain instead of leaving it totally up to the readers interpretation, the folder on his computer doesn't help.

I was just looking for a reason to try that "Let me google that for you" thing. I tested it on a few different topics before this one, but when I noticed that the top result for this was about Asperger Syndrome, well it was too fucking funny to pass up.

The ONLY thing I didn't like about the movie was the absence of the Bearnies, because to me they represented us. I felt like Alan Moore was using them to say that we don't need superheroes to save the world, that being a herd animal mankind needs empathy more than anything else. For instance at the beginning of the book the old bearnie is paranoid about everything and young Bearnie is apathetic, two of humanities biggest problems, but as as the story progresses and the threat of war becomes more likely he realizes what's really important which is of course looking out for one another. I also heard Alan Moore say in an interview one time that the best thing about growing up in a poor neighborhood back when he was a kid was the sense of community which he feels is vanishing, so ah further validates my theory :P.

I'll let the unnecessary gore, the idiotic prison fight scene, and everything else slide because despite all that I've watched the movie like four times so thanks Zack Snyder but you still missed the point of the Bearnies!

OANST you really think Alan Moore is a douche? Why, the guy just doesn't want to whore his work, I don't know him personally but he seems to just genuinely enjoy what he does and seems very likable from everything I've heard about him. Oh and can I have your PSN yet?

I tried picking up John Dies At The End and reading it, but for some reason it just pissed me off. I suppose reading it like 7 times will do that but I don't like it nearly as much as I used to.

1. He sells the rights to his work, and then incessantly whines and bitches about them being made into films. He does this even when the film maker has obviously gone the extra mile to try to please him.

2. He has the beard of a douchebag.

3. He is part of a religion that even he admits isn't real.

etc., etc...

In fairness he's stated that his derision of the adaptions is a little over-exaggerated.

I'm unsure whether that works in his favour or against it.

It makes him sound like confused hermit who loves attention then complains about getting it.
The only adaption of his work he liked was an episode of Justice League Unlimited with a Lotus Eater Machine.

Currently working my way through a few books.

I bought Crank purely because the cover was cool, and I like how it's written. Its shaping up to be a really cool book, not at all what I expected.

Also reading I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell (though not chronologically). A delightful front-shelfer at Barnes and Noble about the excursions of a typical jock A-hole and his many alcohol and sex-related escapades.

Lovely.

I finished Wells´ The Time Machine a couple of days ago and about halfway through American Gods. Which is probably the best fantasy novel I have ever read.
