Minecraft - OWF server -

Last announcement:

The final adventure before the server shuts down, The Quest for the Dragon Egg Part 2, will take place this coming Saturday, the 12th of January, at 9PM GMT. We will meet at the Longhouse of the Dragon Slayers, which is located along the West Line from Ma'Spa Depot. With myself, Darkhoodness, Dripik and Hulaabeo all working on separate parts of the adventure content is stacking up; be prepared to be playing for a few hours.

Please prepare your character in advance, with food, weapons, armour, torches, a minecart and anything else you wish to bring. It'd be appreciated if you brought spares of some of the above to share with anyone who dies. There is a risk of lava-related death, so don't bring anything you wouldn't want to lose. There may be opportunity to stock up from an Ender Chest, so you may wish to place extra supplies in one.

Please ensure that you are able to come on Skype during the adventure to listen to the conversation, even if you can't join in. You'll be more involved with the event and it'll save us having to pass around books for multiple people to read, or to type out instructions. Obviously if you have a microphone, you're more than welcome to chat with us.

Finally, please ensure that you've watched the video of Part 1 (located a few posts above this one) so you can be up-to-date with the story.

Here's a little help with potions if you want to make them but don't know how to actually do it. I found it quite useful and easy to decipher.

My computer can run the fancy GLSL shaders really well, so I went for a walk around Ma'Spa and Genesis taking a few screenshots. If you want anything specifically captured like this I'll be hanging around after the adventure to do Gensis and anything anyone wants. It would be nice if someone could put me in creative so that I could get some bigger landscapes and aerial views of the major settlements.

I agree with Splat, don't update your game. This version will be the final version of the server, upgrading it now risks breaking stuff.

I think the server's on 1.4.6. I feared there would be an issue when I saw the update. I hope you guys can sort it out. When are you taking the server down, Havoc?

I'm sure through illegal file sharing we can ensure that everyone has the correct version. Send some PMs around and we'll get everyone up (down?) to speed.

Announcement:

The OWF Server is using Minecraft 1.4.6. Your client needs to be the same version in order to take part in the event on the 12th.

E: Oh yeah my part of the adventure should be done in time. I hope people will like it. Also shouldn't someone make an event for the adventure on the OWF calender? I would, but it won't let me create any new events for 2013.

I was planning on backing up the world on the 13th and closing it on the 14th.

I suggest mass griefing in those last 24 hours post-backup. It is the end of the world, after all. You need lava, flooding, and TNT raining from the sky.

I'm double sided on that. It would probably be fun, but like Splat said it would be a painful way to say goodbye to everything we've created.

What is everyone's thought on this?

You need to pack up your Lego when you finish building. There has to be an end to give the journey definition. A little remorse combined with explosions seems more fitting to me than an emotionless cutoff.

It's like a Viking funeral where they set the guy on fire and push him down a river.

I don't know if people can be online at the instant the server gets taken down, but a countdown would be pretty cool.

Yeah, I've really grown to love the OWF worlds more than any Minecraft world I've been on. Genesis holds a special place in my heart as well as all the others so I don't want anything destroyed.

Although, maybe that large flat area in Ma'Spa could be a great place to go wild...

Also is there going still to be saved copies of the worlds?

Same here, I like the memories of building stuff and exploring the world together as I remember them now - explosions and destruction I will leave to those who want them. I don't.

Looking forward to tomorrow's adventurin' though.

I might take some more with a nicer texture pack after the adventure. I was playing around with how far I can push my card just before and I got to this.

Oh I could also take screenshots, as I've mentioned before I have a ridiculous monitor and no performance issues so extreme high-res screens are available.

Yeah, I'm not smart enough to figure out a hacky way to take shots above 1680x1050 so I'm limited there. I might do some wallpaper-shaped ones when I can download the map and creative-mode myself.

Well chaps, the adventure's over and, with it, the server. Thanks all for making it such a brilliant, fun and beautiful place to be a part of. It's been a fantastic couple of years and I'll really miss it. Everything we made, from Genesis to Exoddus to Ma'Spa, was brilliant. So thanks everyone. I'll miss ya all. I hope we can find somewhere else to share together. You guys rock!

Good work everyone. the adventure had some interesting moments, but on the whole it was good fun. I'll upload some more shots later.

We definitely need to do some more adventure maps at some point.

Yeah thanks for the past 2 years, guys. They were really fun and helped me get to know some of you a bit better. And yeah, the adventure was fun on the whole, there were some really good parts... Shame about the "interesting" moments though. :P

But nah, it was good. Thanks for coming, all.

Hopefully we can find more things to play together or so.
