BTG what are you doing?

i've just dug out my old Grimms Fairy Tales book. those stories are a bit strange for kids, if you catch my drift. as in underage marriage and being eaten by your friends.

Finished Maus. Going to take a crack at American Gods now.

The premise for the Jury Rig story is really similar to it.

Well, sorta.

After a long stretch of complete literary abstinence (save for a few short, but I must say intriguing, essays), I've picked up a very interesting little book by the name of Prisoner for Blasphemy, by G.W. Foote. If you enjoy mockery of religion, you'd probably love it. Not only that, but I find his wit delightful.

I've read maybe, about 600 and something chapters of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

Good god, this manga is excellent.

It's like if a muscley man punched Lord of the Rings so hard it collided with Dracula and they combined at a molecular level and Then rewrote it to include hundreds of music references and robotic-nazis with machine-gun chests.

I believe he means he was right to do what he did.

I had a big talk about Ozymandias with a friend not so long ago and we decided that underneath everything he was an egotistical wank. Even in the comic.

But your family would have died as soon as the missiles started flying anyways. The world was hours from a nuclear war when Veidt did what he did.

I'm sure it's noted somewhere that Manhattan couldn't stop every single one.

I'm not saying what he did was right, just that I believe it was necessary.

Eh...he probably just said that so that mankind would be more inclined to solve the problem on they're own.

So, do you mean he did the right thing for the wrong reason or that it was the lesser of two evils?

I read through Jumper again. I fucking love that book. It's not a masterpiece, it's just readable. And the main character looks like a friend of mine. Shame about the movie.

Also read The Road by Cormac McCarthy in one sitting. It was fucking excellent. And there's gonna be a movie!

milton glass predicts in the gn that dr. manhattan would be able to stop about 60% of russia's nukes.

valid points have been made, but i'm just never going to believe veidt did what had to be done, yeah WWIII seemed imminent but who can really be sure? veidt is JUST a man, no one has the right to waste innocent people for any reason even in the face of armageddon, idon't care how sure he was.
i'd like to ask the people that he killed their opinion.

besides how do we know for sure what veidt's intentions were, at the end of the comic he says something like, "now i'll establish a utopia" i had assumed after seeing the movie for the first time that he would've either faked his death and sat in his little antarctic palace making himself suffer for each life he destroyed or shot himself. but after reading the gn it almost sounds to me as if he's created the perfect opportunity to shape the world into whatever the hell he wants to, could part of his intentions have been power?

i liked how nite owl told veidt off in the movie telling him that his only legacy was deforming the human race because let's be realistic the peace veidt achieved will never last. dr. manhattan pissed me off even more though, atleast veidt had good intentions i even agreed with his philosophies the most, i'm pretty sure he was supposed to seem like the most altruistic one until he snapped, but dr. manhattan had the power to help more than any of them but he didn't care, he's worse than veidt or the comedian, dr. manhattan is like some rich miser who won't give a dime to his fellow man because he can't relate.

rorschach was my favorite because he was so compassionate that he'd rather die than live in a world full of people being lied to, as much of ass hole as he seemed he was a true martyr. plus you know he was a badass

True, Dr. Manhattan doesn't care about the human race. But, frankly, he's not human any more. Him caring about humanity is like you caring about the ants you accidentally step on when you go for a walk.

Also, you'll find that capitalisation makes your posts much easier to read.

Keep in mind that Manhattan also felt betrayed by humanity. He helped them and then they accuse him of killing those closest to him. I liked Rorshach too, but only after the ending. Throughout most of the novel, I sort of thought of him being a "liberals are only conservatives who haven't been mugged yet" kind of person.

One of my friends is certain in his conviction that The Comedian is the only person in the story who does anywhere near the right thing for anything approaching the right reasons.

Discuss.

I liked all the characters. I couldn't hate any. Buuuut.

Rorschach was a crazy right-wing crazy vigilante crazy.
Dr. Manhattan was amoral.
Silk Spectre II... uh. Hm.
Comedian was a jerkass. Because he knew how shitty everything was. But still. Jerkass.
Veidt wanted to help people. But he killed lots of people to do it.

In the end, everybody sucks ass. just like irl amirite
