he saw Anni pounce onto Jim with a large grin (or whatever paramites have)

I guess you mean 'Lexi'?

"Yes, we should," Jim said pointedly as he slowly picked himself off of the ground, brushing himself down a little feebly. "Anni, you want to come over here and help me with the machines? It's more interesting than just cleaning..."
He knew how short Anni's attention span could be. He was also aware of the fact that a short while ago, one of the machines in this very room had been on fire, and he'd almost suffocated as a result; the machine in question was currently off and they were using a different one that bypassed it, but still, he would like to have a second pair of eyes just in case.
Anni grumbled, "Fine... Let's get on with it." A moment later she added under her breath, "You're so boring sometimes, Jim."
Jim overheard, but rolled his eyes and said nothing, though he smiled very slightly. They were there for a reason after all.

Grace grunted at the comment, "Not in this life. Gluks run the place; we can't expect any different.Trust me, sligs don't make great leaders off of the battle field. Easy work makes 'em soft. And vykkers are crazy; never trust a vykker with anything."
He glanced towards the door to the boss's office, which was just about as closed as any door could be, "Look, I've been told to patrol around and the impression I got of the boss is that he doesn't like being disturbed. You'll be waiting 'til the sky falls trying to get a word with him; if you want, we can look around together and I'll vouch for you if anything comes up."
He wanted to keep an eye on the kid, and it would be good to have the company of anyone who at least seemed willing to haul their weight; as a rule, he tended to hate any sligs conscripted from factories, and it was a hard mentality to break.
