Empire
The quintology (expansion games included) is a set storyline. In a story line there are ups and downs, and in many stories not all of the heros make it the whole way through. The nature of a good story has a good conflict with many complications before a final resolution. i suggest that not every game have a happy ending (not just talking about FMV's but scripted SET storyline). Empire strikes back had a great twist when han solo is taken by the bounty hunters. that was a very effective maddening ending, yet for those who had to wait till the next movie came out (i was not born yet) im sure they were greatly relieved to see them rescue Han. sadly i got to just pop in the next tape and see it was ok. It would be wonderful to see some of the harsher sides of oddworld. It would be joyfully maddening to see some creature that gets to be as blatantly hurtful as possible and get away with it more than just a short time. With the kinto slaves i think they should go all out at how much they are abused. you could even make them too angry to side with the muds and have them want blood for blood, a revolution that costs everyone something precious. i think they are afreaid they will hurt the fun atmosphere of the game if they make the story too dark, but if you take AO or AE and break down the plot, it IS a dark story. you can still make it a fun game and include all sorts of satirical humor. When it comes down to a game with little replay value (be honest it has little) you want the fans to be raving over the plot so all their friends will buy it and play it too. a good story is its own marketability. People will pay for it.
