So where is next for everyone after the forum dies

Personally i might see what other small forums are alive out there in the Wide Web of the internet maybe stop in on the Onyx Path forums or lurk on Planet Vampire, what about everyone else just discord?

Most of the forums I attended are either inactive or straight up dead. If you find one that isn't, you're luckier than me.

Discord overtook the majority of the people, and is planning to add a forum feature into it, for better or worse. Can't say it's the way I would want that to be, especially since Discord is centralized and closed-source, but until/unless enough users join the fediverse, I can't see it going anywhere else in the near future.

Yeah, there's not really much in the way of forums left, outside of a few larger holdouts like Something Awful. Social media platforms have dominated the space for a while now - your next-best choices are Discord, Reddit, or screaming into the void of Twitter.

None of the forums I used to visit regularly are active any more, most aren't even online either. I guess it's going to be Discord for me, until hopefully the wind shifts back towards a decentralized internet.

Pretty much just Twitter and Tumblr. I'm on Discord for small groups of friends, but the stream-of-consciousness style I find makes big Discord communities tiresome. I rarely check Reddit, and technically I have a Facebook account that I never check and would rather go without.

Online community absolutely has not evolved in a way I like, and going from being professionally responsible for it to being able to ignore it at will was a fantastic move.

twitter and discord i guess? although i don't actively use either of them too much. i've pretty much migrated away from online communities. most of the ones i've frequented don't exist anymore, and i don't think i'm interested in joining any new ones.
