The Raisin would have been a stupid character no matter how much backstory he has. He functions soley as a plot device to facilitate the shortcuts in MO's storyline. If and when MO's story is ever properly told I hope they leave him out entirely.
To be fair, the wise mentor is a classic character archetype.

It's not that it's a bad character model, it's just that he was kind of shoe-horned in and didn't really do much at all. He was stale... Honestly it wouldn't have mattered as much if he were another Mudokon. But with this giant blob thing here, there's absolutely no explanation. So we're all just supposed to assume they worship giant blob people now? K. :u

I think I would have been able to like that idea too if they just gave us a little more exposure to it all. It's just sort of...there. There's no reason to care about these guys or remember that they're there at all.

By the way, according to Wil, The Shrink was meant to appear in NnT.
IIRC, it was just meant to appear in the background, not part of the plot.

Isn't he supposed to be a seed creature or used to be a tree or something? But yes it did throw me off as well when I first played MO that they suddenly seek advice from a giant dried fruit.

Though as an ancient seed or tree type thing, it would make sense as a mentor. He would be far more in tune with nature and know how oddworld used to be eons ago first hand. If they gave a bit of back story to him like how Abe and co found him or how his race is also going extinct, if his races extinction effects the eco system or at least quickly explain what he is exactly. I think he could have been alright. Instead

Here's a raisin, pbbt! He is wise and de mudokons seek his advice now.

Then it may have been funnier when he did the whole falling asleep when he doesn't finish an important instruction or wise limerick-thing.
But I understand that soooo much was cut in MO and that's a shame.

Elder tree, actually. I actually always liked the description in that page. I just never felt that the in-game character lived up to it.

I suppose I'd be fine with him reappearing in future games, as long as he actually has some depth. And if his ratz actually do something.

The Ratz are supposed to be the Raisin's disciples or something, but pretty much the only thing they did was follow Munch around a little bit then eat a small part of him.

[Insert obligatory wife joke that only half makes sense]

I just got interesting idea about how Soulstorm can work on Mudokons. It came to me after the latest ARG video with Mud coming insane. What if not liquid itself is poisonus or causes dependency, but ghosts, that were tied to their bones somehow, turned out to be imprisoned in brew, and became very angry. You know that Muds can be very revengeful as it seen in bad endings. So this spiteful dead souls locked in bottles for years, or we can imagine they were even "boiled" with brew and became something very horrible and unpleasant, finally got escape and bring their wrath down upon the first living beings they see - the innocent Muds. Ghosts eating their souls from inside.
Now I leave you the pleasure of continuing your own horror film script in your mind.

Wait a minute, is the Age of Alchemy still a thing in Glukkon history?
Because now that I think about it, Soulstorm brew sounds like a fusion between an addictive soft drink and literal potion/curse making, what with the bones and tears being used as ingredients.
EDIT:
And I'm pretty sure the Three Weirdos flat-out confirm that the bones are tied to the ghosts, considering they're missing limbs because their bones got used for brew.

As far as we know, yes.

This is possibly an underlying theme, but the central idea of Soulstorm Brew is addiction, inspired by Lorne Lanning's father, who was an alcoholic.

May be not all Glukkons refused to use magic and alchemy. There still could left some sects. And I like your teory that Soulstorm is witchcraft. In the end, he did not in vain get its name. It must do something with the soul.

Well, the glocktigi definitely have some relation to occultism.

So far the clues highly suggest the muds are getting brainwashed.
In exoddus, a cutscene has Abe to say that mudokons forgot their past after being tricked into drinking the brew and volunteering to work for the glukkons.

But we never get to know WHY they forgot or HOW. This is getting darker the more you think about it.

I mean SSBrew is hell of a drug. No wonder they don't even know who they are anymore.

I still wonder what kind of profit does Glukkons get by turning their employees into drug addicts? Not to mention spending so many healthy Muds, who could have became or were that employees, for Tear Extractors. Personally, I strongly doubt that the whole sum of the effects (and absolutely non-positive) of Soulstorm makes of Mudokons those who are ready to work day and night. They are more like deadly poisoned, one foot standing in the grave. In particular, these conclusions are confirmed by the sounds they made in depression and after Tear Extractors.
My logic is defeated by Oddworld logic. I'm looking forward for the game, to know the truth.

There's no indication that they're getting "brainwashed" in AE. Moreover, here is the transcript of the cutscene:
:
Abe: "I've been through this before, back when I got the power to shut down RuptureFarms, [changes to the Paramonia transition FMV] that's when I first saw the creatures of Oddworld as they used to be before we chopped them into Tasty Treats, we had forgotton our past and now it was costing us our future..."

I was talking about Soulstorm(that's why i was reffering to the clues). In exoddus nothing is mentioned.
