Mudokon misconception

I always had the impression that Mudokon's were a representation of various indigenous cultures of our world who met oppression, endured slavery etc.

Sure on the surface it's all there. But when i think more about it, I realise just how different Mudokons are to those indigenous cultures.

1. They were a super-power once.
2. Despite their conditions with slavery, by MO they already begin to reclaim their culture and establish strongholds.

All the Industrial races are physically inferior to them, heavy reliance on technology to stand toe-to-toe against them.

It's like the real indigenous folk who were at the bottom of the food chain pulled the 180, developed the industrial world and crushed their enemies.

Abe is the working class white man in a world upside down, and the Glukkons and Sligs were 3rd world people, who finally got their act together.


Ah who knows, maybe the only misconception here is that I thought I knew what I was talking about. But has anyone else thought about this?

Nope, I dont look too deeply into lore like that. I appreciate discussions like this, but from a bystanders PoV rather than a discussor.

This is a really interesting concept I never thought of, however there is a slight issue with the Glukkons, as they were not super physically inferior at first, it was because of their change in ways that they're legs all but disappeared.

Our school history classes are horrendously whitewashed. How many of you have heard of the various powerful African empires of history? How many of us know anything at all about pre-colonial Africa besides ancient Egypt? Even African immigrants (and descendants of those immigrants) in Europe didn't do too badly in the centuries before colonialism. For starters, they were wealthy enough to charter a course there.

The west's modern domination is only a few centuries old (and likely coming to an end, but that's a different topic). For most of our history, with the exception in some cases of Greece and Rome's brief ascendancies, the nations in the middle east, far east, Africa, and Central and South America, were much more powerful and more advanced than Europe.

The two differences you claim are absolutely not differences at all.

African Empires? wut?

I'm talking about colonialism periods, when locals were invaded and oppressed. Not pre-colonial, I did mention "representation of various indigenous cultures of our world who met oppression, endured slavery etc."

Mudokons have a really strong culture, despite their circumstances and oppression, they survive. Thanks to Abe of course

You were contrasting it with real history and identifying differences that don't actually exist.

In terms of what we know of inter-species culture and history on Oddworld, there really are no exact parallels with human history.

Both the glukkons and mudokons were tribal long ago, the mudokons became enslaved and the glukkons prospered on their backs.

I think the English did something similar to the Irish, but still that story doesn't make for an Oddworldian analogue.
