Lorne @ Wired - Oddworld creator on controlling his universe

New and very interesing Interview from Lorne by wired.co.uk:

http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/...ning-interview

Lorne reveals some brand new info about Squeek in it:

:
Squeek's kind of a spoiler, but I'll tell you this. The idea was that the Vykkers, who were animal researchers that would kill a million bunnies just to make a better fabric softener, had been making robotic life support devices because so they could repossess people's body parts like how you'd get evicted. They'd stick what was left of you in this clunky robotic form and tossed you out on the street. That's who Squeek was but who he REALLY was would come out in the story.
Ok that sounds quite unexpected.

Is that not an idea he intended to explore in Citizen Siege?

Can't believe I made it through! I recommend to read though, learned some cool things. A lot of it I already knew, but still.

Yes it's basically the same, the only difference I see is that Citizen Siege was set on earth.

Huh, I didn't know that Munch was censored post-9/11. And despite everything, I would like to see Munch's Exoddus, perhaps with Roid restored.

I thought Squeek was going to be a rat or something, but maybe he's named after his squealing metal joints.

That makes to much sense. I always thought Squeek sounded too much of a childish joke. Now it seems proper oddworld.

Very interesting read indeed.

And personally. I wanted Squeek to be a Slig. Always thought having a Slig as a good guy would be frigging awesome

I'm trying to imagine XBox as a casual platform represented by Munch, on which Halo was a fondly remembered and moderately successful shooter. I can't quite manage it. The whole gaming environment and industry is different.

I'm trying to imagine a world where people liked Munch. Can't quite do it. I have an imagination, not a stupidination, am I right? Am I right, guys?

First thing that comes to mind for 'sticking body parts into a robot body' is Handy Men from Bioshock Infinite.

Interesting read, thanks!

Good read! Squeek definitely sounds like Citizen Siege now. Wasn't it Squeek that was thought to be a parasite/symbiote a while back?

Looks like there are some new New 'n' Tasty screenshots too. In particular, the ninth looks to be the old lift shaft in Zulag 1- I thought from the E3 gameplay that was replaced by that big mechanical platform?

Any one remember a game called Metal Arms: Glitch in the system?

It's kinda the same concept but in a world of robots. You would regularly switch parts and possess enemies with a tether gun.

But still, sounds like a unique game just from the mini tease

I'm surprised about the concept of Squeek. But I'm glad, I thought him being a rat or some sort of other rodent would be a bit lame. I hope more comes of it in future.

I haven't read the interview yet, but I gotta say I get ridiculously excited over any Squeek/Quintology info. I always imagined him as a slurg, maybe a fuzzle or a rat.

Is it just me that actually found this scene really horribly morbid, like, less funny more oh god why won't it end?

Well there are still two more heroes in the quintology left.

Plus there is also SligStorm. Even if I'm not sure the hero of that game will be a "good" guy.
