Email, New Members, and Spammers.
As some of you are aware, OWF has had issues with sending emails for the last few months. That doesn't really affect existing members, but it means that new member registrations weren't going through.
Over the weekend, Alcar worked out what was going wrong. Turned out that one of the defunct Oddworld fansites that are hosted on the same server had been hacked due to old software and was sending out spam emails. As a result, our server had been limited to one email going through a day.
It appears to be all fixed now, and new member registrations are going through normally. Alcar also sent out an email to everyone who tried to register in the last few months apologising and telling them that their accounts had now been approved. However, this means that the normal registration review process I do to ensure that we don't get spambots hasn't been applied. In the last few days we've had two spambots and there may be more. If you see a spambot, use the Report button on the post. That sends an email to the relevant moderator, so they can deal with it immediately. Also, please don't reply to spam threads - your post will just be deleted anyway.
Also, please bear in mind that we've had hardly any new members here for months. As a result, I feel like OWF has become even more insular and troll-y than normal. As new members start rolling in, please treat them with respect and try not to scare them away. Unless they really deserve it.
