Wait, how is that even remotely bad
A lot of developers do that and they manage just fine?? The only difference is they don't tack the same general name to every game they make. At this point if something says Oddworld, it's safe to say the game just takes place on Oddworld and isn't necessarily tied in with a previous game at all. It's like a bunch of short stories.

I'm not saying it's bad. I think the thing I say below is why I'm saying this.
:
Sure, but I can perfectly understand why. I was very young when AO and AE came out and can definitely see why we would be nostalgic. On the other hand, as far as I can see pupbenny is afraid that the changes that started with SW would only push the series further away...
Personally, I dont mind that much the direction SW-Fangus-and whatnot, but I would prefer too a follow-up to MO. Call me a nostalgic as well.

Yes, I think you've got it perfectly right!
I think I just want the first new Oddworld game to be a Quintology Area game to, kind of, secure it's place in Oddworld today. Or something like that. I think that could be what it is.
:
If someone say that Stranger isn't oddworldish, must be (for f* sake) BLIND. If (for example) I'll play that game and dont even know of its name, after couple minutes there is no chance to call this game nothing than Oddworld. It have the feel, music and design like Oddworld... And I really feel what feels Lorne when creating that game. Munch, even with scrabs, paramites and so on - is nothing like Oddysee and Exoddus Oddworld, really. This is the perfect example of - what creates good Oddworld game. Oddworld is like painting. You cant catch the atmosphere only with painted characters when they are not painted with the original vision. You know what I mean?
Not exactly. Munch, even with known characters - isn't Oddworldish at all. Good Oddworld game isnt at all about something we already know. Its about feel.
|
I've got to say I disagree with you. Munch did have the Oddworld feel about it, to me, and Stranger's Wrath didn't. The music is Stragner's Wrath was different, the gameplay. I also think that the music was different in MO. And the gameplay was altered, but it was the same objective. (Sneaking around and screwing stuff up for the Indutrialists.) When I play MO, I know it's Oddworld. When I play SW I don't. The only thing that gives away that SW is on Oddworld is the currency and the few references like the Fuzzles and the Vykker that were added in.
:
No, it's not what you're used to. You keep posting in this thread as if your opinions are universal, when it's clear that you're the only person that holds them. And, as I said before, OWI/JAW can't make the games just for the fans; they have to consider people who've never heard of Oddworld before.
|
I'm not the only person who thinks this. Other people have agreed with me, and even said what I've been trying to say better. Also, I meant if someone just played the first three Oddworld games then they'd be used to that. Then SW comes along and they'd be like "WTH!?" That's what I meant, compared to the other Oddworld games it's different.
:
I think Abe's strategy/platform games are a completly different kind of gameplay compared to MO and stranger.
|
Agreed. Although, I think MO was an adapted version of the Abe gameplay for 3D. Or that's what they tried to do I think.
:
As i see it we have 2 different group of oddworld fans; the ones that like Abe's puzzles and the ones that whant a more action oriented game.
|
I think a mix would be good. The strategy of Abe that has got the action of Stranger. (Which is what I think they was trying to do with MO.)
:
Oddworld isn't just the gloomy, dingy corridor with slaves and robots or the dank forest/cave with the bones of dead guys, it's also got vast fields that have fuzzy little animals and slow as fuck amphibians in wheelchairs.
|
Agreed.
