Double Fine Amnesia Fortnight

So, Double Fine is having a public Amnesia Fortnight this time around. If you aren't familiar with this, it is a yearly event they have to pick what their next games are going to be. Typically, Tim Schafer will hand pick four or five people from the company to make a prototype of their choosing within two weeks, splitting the entire company into small groups, and completely stopping work on every other game during this period. This time, he has allowed anyone in the company to submit an idea, and is letting the internet choose four that will go to the prototype stage. Vote!

This looks so awesome!

I'm really liking the sound of Battle Bros.

Also Zumbi Chained.

I like the premise of Black Lake, it's reminiscent of Dr. Seuss' books somehow.

i voted for The White Birch. If done right, it could be an excellent game.

Primordial Slime sounds similar to Puddle. Doublefine high just sounds awful.

Yeah I thought that, I'd rather them wait and use the Doublefine characters for something a bit... meatier like Brawl/Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale

I don't really care about the voting or the playing of demos. I paid up just to see the documentaries and progress updates.

The interesting thing about getting to play these prototypes is that the majority of them will not become actual games. You have to remember that they have produced twelve or more prototypes already using this technique, and only five have become actual games so far. They will end up pitching all of them, but most of them will end up shelved.

Yeah, but I imagine that they didn't get to become released games for a good reason.

I've already got a massive backlog of games in my Steam and Android accounts. I don't need more.

I don't know about that. The state of the video game industry being what it is, I don't think that we can just say a game wasn't going to be great just because it didn't find a publisher.

I'm pretty sure Valve did something like this, and it eventually turned into Portal 2.

No they didn't, they just realized that Portal was a success and began developing a sequel.

That's why I said it was Portal 2. Portal 1 came from Narbacular Drop, the idea was pretty much bought by Valve, along with Tag: The Power of Paint.

I am absolutely certain though that Valve did something like this, and it had something to do with Portal or Portal 2, I read it in Portal 2: The Final Hours. I can't be bothered to find it again, look it up.

Telling people to look it up, way to prove a point.

I'm pretty sure Valve did the same thing with Left 4 Dead. I'd almost be mad at them for buying ideas if they didn't pull them off so damn well.
