There is a thread for music related discussions.

Also that is not an original melody, even that short opening to the song sounds familiar.

The Brian Setzer Orchestra version of In The Mood isn't half as good as the original.

I bought this album recently. It's been a huge source of inspiration for my tenor playing.

This one is a classic. I love the drum solo.

Big Phat Band is incredible. I could listen to their stuff all day. Gordon Goodwin's solo is brilliant, although sounds better live.

I'm currently in one of my school's Big Bands, which is pretty cool. I'm in the lower level band, but I'm almost guaranteed a place in the better one next year because I'll be one of 2 the senior years tenor players in the school and the band needs 2 tenors.

Well I knew I had heard that tune somewhere before, turns the song I thought it was from was completely wrong, it was instead from a song with the name. Derp.

I like jazz, but sometimes I get bored of the extensive soloing in the bebop stuff, because, whilst much of the time it is interesting rhythmically and in terms of tonality, at least in the stuff I've heard there's no great variation in the overall texture.

I think everyone should listen to Mingus. He played some fantastic bass.
I also think that anyone who hasn't listened to Coltrane or Dolphy is missing out, and that anybody interested in jazz should listen to Charlie Parker. He whizzed around that saxophone like nothing I've ever heard.

Two more names I should mention are George Duke (keyboards) and Jean-Luc Ponty (violin).

Another band that any jazz lover should look up is a slightly popular 90s group called The Cherry Poppin Daddies.

I use them in some of my videos

Hell if it wasn't Fallout that got me into 50s jazz then it was a long standing love of earlier black and white comedies.

Oh and of course this is on like half of all modern Pixar films. =)
