Both front-end and back-end development. Can't create a design in Photoshop for shit, but I can take a design and develop the front-end with it. Back-end tends to be less flashy and more functional (duh).
Any particular reason you hate it? I find it quite interesting, the space is always moving. With greater HTML5 and CSS3 adoption, as well as better JavaScript engines having become more common-place in the past two to three years, I've been spending more and more time on my front-end development. Not to say I don't keep up with the back-end, PHP5.3 was sweet, and PHP5.4 has some more goodies coming that I've been dying for
Unfortunately I only get to use the latest technology when I freelance - due to the constraints and viability of upgrading commercial applications. Never the less.
At the moment I'm trying to decide whether to learn Python, or Java. So difficult!
