Slig mask

First thread here.. hope Works in Progress are all okay with the rules. I'll be updating this thread whenever I make progress.

What I'm doing is a slig mask. You've probably heard of Pepakura Designer, a tool that 'unfolds' your 3D models so you can print them out and with the aid of cutting, creasing, folding and gluing you can create your own 3-Dimensional statue. These papercrafts' limits are practically endless. One can create Simple designs of go for things even as complex as Howl's moving castle!

What I'm after though, is an appropriately sized Slig mask you can place on your head. Here's some Work in Progress imagery.

Works.. with Maya?

I use Cinema 4D. It can export the models though, if that's what you meant.

Pepakura Designer is a standalone tool that opens 3DS and OBJ.

If it works with .obj then it works with maya , have you tried your model in pepakura yet, to test it? looks like its going to be very complicated to flatten

Not really. I've done this before and flattening is almost always an easy job.
What worries me though is the texturing. Never been too good with that but I think I can manage.

Wow... I had a similar idea... Only I wanna make a slig mask out of real material .. I've even bought a glue pistol some days ago to make it and I have some old material ready for it... Maybe this model could actually aid me in how the proportions would look like and stuff =D

This is the standard view of Pepakura Designer:


First off both fields, left and right, are empty. As soon as you open your model file, it appears to the left one and you can cut it how you like. Once you have cut out enough, push the 'unfold' button (you can also push it before cutting anything, actually. It will auto-detect the optimal parts) and you'll get the net to the right.

You can now modify the right field's part with several tools and the changes will take on the 3D model field. Or vice versa. In the long run it isn't too difficult.

In that case, if you struggle with textures, we could all pitch in. This is just my crude attempt to blag my way into getting a mask, but if you make the net image public, we could all print, assemble, and then physically paint it. If we then unfold it again and scan it back into the computer, that could be use as reference, making the texturing of the model a bit easier.

Where is the file download? I make (not design) allot of pepakura stuff and I've been waiting for somebody to design SOMETHING Oddworld-related. Finally.
