Oddworld oddworld by YOU

I am not sure if this has been posted already but i thought that it would be cool to create more than just stories and stuff we should make places and things outside of mudos (the continent in which Abe's adventures took place) and make religions for new races or origins. ya following?

I was actually brainstorming some possible locations the other day. Its hard to think outside of Mudos when Mudos itself is so diverse.

If the place where Fangus Klot was set was east-european and was on the other side of Oddworld, then it's likely Mudos, with its repressed tribal roots, coulld be the real-world equivalent to N.America, right?

I was considering some British-inspired part of Oddworld, castles and the like, and a bunch of customs or religions based off of the 'oddness' of British culture. Religion based off excessive tea drinking.

Happy

My location resembles a Chinese based theme, with rice fields and those fancy rooftops.

and maybe even we make a whole new continent with a whole new set of species and characters like fangus klot.

the thing I love about oddworld is that they combined different things ( e.g. a western civilisation with a modern day industrial theme) and it worked so well. best thing ever.

The idea of oddworld was mix and match cultures together, like Chinese architecture mixed with hoover dam which was a cut part of Stranger's Wrath.
I think that tribalism is being dominated all over Mudos at least by industrialists, much as it is here. Tribalism cannot withstand since people are always looking for life improvements.

Oh yeah definitely. It has to have a base culture or theme to take off from, and then there's all this mix-matching of other cultures.

I mean if a British styled part of Oddworld existed, the Castles and feudal system of medieval times would be a base I'd go for, and then from there on, all sorts of things could be layed over the top. An uprising from a feudal system would be similar to the Oddworld archetype of being repressed, but a refreshing change.

Us Brits don't just love ourselves a merry ol' riot whatsay.

hahaha now that's an image. A medieval mudokon.

Raises a question though, I wonder whether or not Mudokons migrated anywhere else but Mudos?

Mind you, although this land I propose would be cheifly medieval English, would be nice to mix that up with a more modern setting of the 18th-19th British Industrial revolution Get a bit of steampunk going on in Oddworld.

Might have to do myself a little fanfiction writing.

My place would be really far away from Mudos and its technology is far more advanced then the Glukkons. Sorta like Tokyo.

I've always wonderd, do you think Mudokons and Glukkons know about or found out any other Inhabitants outside from Mudos, if there even is any?

I was actually thinking about a neon-encrusted, possibly futuristic Tokyo place as well actually. Perhaps a utopian society with hidden secrets

I kind of had an Oddworld version of Bladerunner in my mind. So yeah, if I can't have steampunk, I'll bloody well have myself some cyberpunk haha

I was also thinking of whether the Mudokons and Glukkons know of other civilisations or not. I imagine there are some fairly large Glukkon-slig cities we've yet to see ourselves? But my figuring is that if Oddworld is 7 times as large as Earth, reaching the other side of Oddworld would take a considerable amount of time.

To be honest I'd prefer the Mudokons being the closest thing resembling a human.

However, I did in fact consider an Oddworld story where malevolent aliens from a far off planet arrive on Oddworld, the twist being that they look pretty much just like us - human. Its just a nice twist on the fact everything on Oddworld looks so Odd and alien, and how when aliens do arrive, they're nothing but normal, at least to us - I'm sure inhabitants of Oddworld would find them unsettling and revolting.

But as much as I like the idea, I wouldn't be too happy with the presence of anything human, even if we was through something like that.

generally, I think that multiple races could counter for humans, not just 1.

You're doing it wrong. Much like a slig with his pants on his head.

Oddworld is not Earth.
There are no humans.
There were no humans in mind during its creation.
Nothing is designed to resemble humankind in anyway.

Off-course, it's inevitable that some people will find likeness between some races and humans, but this should never be intentional when designing a race which is not human.

Uh huh. That's nice to know? I don't know what you're trying to prove there.

I have nothing to prove. I was stating in detail that mudokuns don't "counter for humans" and no off-worldly race should be considered to do so. Such a thing would defy the idea of off-worldliness.

Thanks for your aggressive response all the same.

It wasn't aggressive! Just a snide remark.

I know that mudokons don't counter for humans, I think what I was trying to get across was 'humanoid', Mudokons are the most humanoid.

Other Oddworldian sentient species all seem to fill different societal structures of a human world however.. Do you agree or disagree with that?

I must admit, to compare oddworld to earth is quite different than comparing it to something else. with all the diversity and amount of different cultures is a unique way that a world like that could be made.

basically it mixes the essence of humans into natives and industrials, showing both the nasty power-hungry side and the nice, carefree side. it is not so much a "humanoid" but human-like behaviour.
