Abe's Oddysee Wierd Screen Glitch in Cutscenes

Hey guys,

Recently I rediscovered the Oddworld games (yay) I loved as a kid and I had to buy it when I saw the ad on steam.

So I got Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus.

I decided to start off with Abe's Oddysee since I never had played the first so I thought I'll play it in order.

It started off great and everyone but then an annoying fault soon followed the second time I went to play the game and has happened ever since.

So when a cutscene begins the area abe was just in, would still be visible throughout the cutscene in a series of lines which flicker through the cutscenes making them very difficult to watch and enjoy.

I'm just wondering if the issue is screen resolution (1680 x 1050) or whether since the game is so old that most modern computers won't allow certain elements of the game to function properly.

Is there a solution to this issue? Anyone else have it? AAlso sometimes when I close the game a box comes up with countless errors so would that help as well?

That's all for now, any help would be appreciated.

Well , i haven't got the most modern computers but my computer is actually great.
Maybe you have to configure the resolution to 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768 , perhaps you have to run it as admin.
And the error or bug you say at the end it never happened to me , well , i don't know a solution for that. Sorry

Um... I don't have much advice, since I haven't actually played it on steam and I have only been able to fix these problems if they happen on discs.

Maybe try changing the compatability mode of the game (if that's possible) or take lautaro_12's advice and change the resolution.

What are you playing it on, and where did you get the game from?

Yeah, i have the same problem playing my old (from Amazon Marketplace and suspiciously legal) copy of AO on Vista. The only solution I've found is to minimize the window as the video starts and opening it again as quickly as possible, but this means you miss the first few seconds, sometimes lose sync with the sound and really annoys my laptop. I don't know if there's a better solution, and I feel your pain if you haven't played the game before.

I'd suggest watching them on youtube as you pass them ingame, but I can't do better than that. It might be screen-resolution related. It doesn't happen on AE, though, so you'll be ok when you get there.

(Man, I was hoping that'd be sorted out for the Steam version.)

thanks for your replies, been caught up with work and recently just remembered to check the topic again :S

well i tried changing my resolution to what was suggested, but still not luck.

i tried changing the compatibility mode, but when i open the game steam says cant do it, turn off compatibility mode. (sigh)

minimising and maximising didnt work as well

im thinking of running it in windowed mode but not sure, any one know how to?

any other suggestions would be greatful

link, what model graphics card do you have? Updating the driver might do something, if not, try checking file integrity from steam..
