Happy oddworld wildlife topic

OK, let's start with this...
i have a queary about scrabs; their jaws are so far out infront of their heads, i find it hard to imagine how they eat/chew things so easily.

Discuss. Also fell free to input your own theorys and questions about the wildlife of Odddworld.

Did you not play AO or AE? When they kill prey, they tap dance on it to mash it up, and then scoop it into their lower jaw. At least, I think the dancing is for that purpose.

This thread might not be so necessary though. Any questions like that could go in the Q&A thread.

I agree, if you watch their AO/AE animations, they dip their jaw down to the ground, as if scooping up the meat. They then tip their head backwards.

I see your point, but i thought it would be fun to make a thread where you can insert any wildlife related...stuff.

What explanation do we have to Paramites lack of climbing in AO?

Well for one thing there were no webs like those in AE. Perhaps while they’re nesting they don’t construct those permanent webs for navigating and save all their webbing for lining nests. As for why they can’t climb walls in either game, perhaps the rock surfaces in the temple and vault are too damp to be clung to. Like how those sucker dart things won’t stay fixed to the wall of a running shower.

I honestly just thought it was mainly the fact that Paramite's have a single toe one each foot; it's hardly climbing a sheer face of rock. Even if it did have more suitable feet, it's weight might caused problems.

Yes, the webs would likely be too draining on the Paramite unless they were in their area of permanent residence, considering how thick they are in proportion to the Paramites (which is necessity over the thickness of spider silk, for the same reason of weight issues). Also since the other members of their colony would be able to utilise them regularly, as opposed to a one off use for a scouting individual.
Obviously the *real* reason is simply that it hadn't been invented/utilised as part of gameplay. Only when you possess a Paramite can it climb webs, and this is of course impossible in AO.

Except that Paramites can climb near-vertical rock surfaces in Munch’s Oddysee.

Paramites have two digits on each limb, which seem to join at the limb's first joint. In the species we've seen in the games so far, one of these digits has atrophied and is possibly vestigial, retaining only a minor function in, for example, scaling webs.

Alright, going back to AO. Why are the bats so strong?
Also, who put the meat sacks in those particular areas in the Paramite/Scrab regions.
A very brave person?

I assume the natives would put them there to bait paramites and scrabs, it's somthing for them to munch on while the natives flee.

The bats bear fangs that can deliver a deadly neurotoxin. So wait there, while I warm up the deadly neurotoxin.

I'd love to see some detailed close-up images of the tiny critters like birds, bats, hint flies, and bees. No wall art.

Also, I have always wanted to know more about that mysterious stone face on the AO start-up screen. I made a thread about it quite a while back, but it yielded no conclusive results.

Yeah, I've always been curious about that face, but I don't think anyone knows anything.

Yeah, still a mystery to me too, the next one who meets Lorne should ask him.
I think it's just a native glukkon or something like that

Were the glukkons not once a very mystical and supersticious race?

I heard that somewhere...
