Multiplatform is definatly the way to go. PS3 and 360 at first, shortly followed by a PC release. Talking about PC, they should also release MO and SW on Steam, and probally AO and AE and downloadables on XBLA and PSN.

I do like the Wii, but I just don't think that it's suitable for Oddworld. Maybe a sidestory Oddworld thing, just to test the market, youknow?

Though, Miyamoto (or whoever) announced Nintendo is "no longer targeting the core gamer". Sounds pathetic, when they could surely do that AS WELL as casual gamers, and major games like SSBB are mostly going to be played by core gamers. Anyway, point being that the Wii is more 'family friendly' than the other consoles, in a sense, so if OWI wanted to target more people than just mostly gamers with OW games, then the Wii would seem more logical. However, the games would have to be significantly different to previous ones to reasonably fit with the control system, and the graphics engine etc. are not as powerful.
If intending more of a game than some family thing, Xbox 360 seems most likely, more people have these than PS3, by far. Also, I do believe I heard something about Sony no longer being in the game market after PS3 because of profit lost or something, though I haven't looked this up and don't care enough to do so myself. Xbox has a decent graphics card, but the PS3s is even better, as far as I'm aware. But I think OWI will want to reach to the most people mossible, thus PS3 seems less likely, considering its intended market is similar/the same as the 360's, but is not doing as well.
PC is obviously a good option later on, if plausible, but then, how many people are going to have a decent enough computer around the time of the game's launch? Hopefully enough for that idea to even be worth considering at all.

And stop fanboying over your favorite consoles already.

Hmmm... considering Nintendo is trying to bridge the gap between casual and hardcore and try to introduce to people to gaming, all their efforts seem to do is for people to label themselves one way or another and therefore widen the divide. They aren’t doing wonder’s for their image either. If they just left this casual/hardcore thing alone (they are bullshit terms anyway) and concentrated on making things accessible but enjoyable, then some real progress would be made. Still, with Galaxy, Wii Sports and Brawl, they seem to be doing a good job, but that is something for another thread.

At any rate, I think that Oddworld is one of the those games that fits in with Nintendo's philosophy- it's a far cry from either Wii Sports or Halo 3, but sits nicely in-between as a game with characters, storyline and gameplay that everyone can love and appreciate. Younger gamers will love the slapstick comedy, and older games will value the hidden meanings and themes.

However, one way Oddworld goes about this is with it’s stunning environments and character design, and for a next-gen Oddworld I really don't think that the Wii could pull it off.

As for motion controls... I'm unsure. It could, of course, just become horribly tacked on and not add anything to the experience, but at the same time it could make the game just that little more accessible and immersive.

All the same, I'd like to see some sort of Oddworld on the Wii, to see how it fairs and how OI use motion controls. I thought that a port of MO with improved graphics and some of the Beta gameplay features, or maybe Strangers Wrath with MP3 type controls.

I still think that 360 is probably the best, mind. It has the power and a much wider audience then the PS3. Oddworld also has the potential from some amusing Achievements.

Now, do you think that Oddworld would benefit from online play? Co-op?

I'd suspect 360. Many more people own 360, and the main purpose of any of OWI is getting them out to people. Most people had a PSX as opposed to other consoles, and it was the most powerful at the time, but that might not have been the reason. Control method would be important. They may try for Wii first, sicne even more people have that, and it's cheaper. But if the control system is unusable for the type of game intended (if a game AT ALL, obviously), Xbox seems more likely due to being more popular and not as expensive. It is well known that the Xbox is more popular than PS3, regardless of which one any of you guys like more/fanboy for. If on Xbox, multiplatform with PS3 would seem likely, since it would be easier to port controls in this way than with the Wii, for obvious reasons.

I don't think all that many people really have PCs decent enough for a real decent game comparable to current gen consoles. My computer sure as hell ain't.
Well , nintendo is a whole lot better then microsoft , they only thing most of us need from microsoft is windows.
and the pc is the best people have pc the most cause it can be upgraded to match the level of games u want and it's online capabilty is higher then most console.
And above all multi-platform is the best.

The PS3 is better than the 360. OWI always try to go to the most powerful system. I think they will go back to Sony.

Did anyone notice the article where Lorne said console developing is a problem?
I think the PC platform might be the next stop.

Here.

I think that PC games are getting a little old hat nowadays. I think that OW should start making games for the 360 and I would like to see it put on the Wii. I heard that Oddworld games might get revamped for the DS and if that happens, then they might be able to put them out for the Wii.

If anything, with distribution channels like Steam and Gametap, PC games are having a renaissance.

PC gaming is very popular. I think soon enough the graphics will exceed those of the consoles, if they don't already. New graphics cards and processors are being developed, which means more powerful gaming.

The problem is that it's hard to develop for all the possible pc configurations at once. Plus the piracy on pc is a real problem...

Consoles might not be what's best but PC is not as easy as it sounds.

It's not too hard to develop in PC, the PS3 and Xbox 360 games come from PC. Lorne Lanning said they loved the PSX because it was cheap to develop. Now, it's too expensive to develop in consoles, but, like Xavier said, the piracy is one big problem.

Actually, the architecture of the PS3 and the 360 are nothing like a PC. The original Xbox, on the other hand, was very much like a PC and that's one of the reasons why they made the switch.
