National holiday day! where we celebrate whatever the F*k we want!

Actually it used to be Columbus day, because it was really just a day off of school. I didn't celebrate the holiday except with video games and T.V!

EDIT: Whoops. I didn't know that it was a holiday as in, Christmas, hannuka, Halloween, and other such things.

I'd probably say that it is Halloween or christmas. Everyone where i live goes out and buys their crappy ol' costume, so when me and my bro get out there with our Kick A*s costumes, I feel a sense of accomplishment and pride.
And christmas because the free stuff. and because I am a christian.

It used to be Halloween but nowadays people have ruined it in concern for "the children". Kids don't even get to dress up or get a half day of school anymore. This year trick or treating is happening a week before Halloween, 3:30 to 5. Sad.
Christmas was officially cancelled as my mom is the only person who is still a Christian in the family.
I think that means Thanksgiving by default.

It would be Melbourne Cup Day - the whole city gets a public holiday for a horse race! And at the actual moment of the race, the whole country shuts down for three minutes to listen to the radio. Even federal parliament stops if it's in session.

But seeing as Cup Day always falls in my university exam period, I can't be such a fan so instead I will go with the Queen's Birthday. I just love the way that we celebrate her birthday when even Britain doesn't. And, what's more, it's two months after her actual birthday. It really only happens because we couldn't think of a better reason for a public holiday in June.

I dont really have a favorite national day that I can think of off the top of my head. However, I do find it ironic here in the U.S. we celebrate Christopher Columbus for a day, when in realism he helped begin the extermination of the Native Americans here. Yet we can't take a day out yet to celebrate the work of Malcolm X...silly country.

I find it ironic that you celebrate CC day when he never came anywhere near North America.

Maybe you should celebrate Mayflower Day if you want to mark the extermination of Native Americans. Or is that what Thanksgiving is about?

Uh, since when do you have to be Crhistian to celebrate Christams? That may sound contrived considering it's called Christmas, but some Muslim people I know, as well as a non-practicing Sikh woman all celebrate Christmas.

But for serious purposes, Christmas. I love the whole winterish holiday feel. Mainly because grey cloud coverage and uncomfortably cold temperatures are so welcome after the damned Texas summers.
