Stupid BMPs

Goddamn I hate it when people post BMPs that take ages to download and hog my connection. Can we please ban BMPs from attachments and (if it's possible) image links?

There is absolutely no excuse for posting BMPs. Even MS Paint saves in jpeg these days.

BMP is only realy needed for high res stuff in photo's, and even that has diffrent formats these days. Even though I have a fast connection, No more BMP!

BMPs shouldn't be a problem in attachments, as they are limited in size like all other images are. As for image links, I'd say that is what is hogging your connection, as we really don't have any control over them.

BMPs can be useful when you don't want ANY compression. As most of the population don't have access to image programs that allow you to change the default JPEG / GIF / PNG compression settings.

I get your point but I don't see that there is much need for zero-compression images on this forum.

If you can't control it, can you at least regulate? Maybe have a rule that discourages BMP use?

I've used MSPaint to edit/save as JPG before. THis resulted.

MSpaint only likes Bitmap format. Anything else gets chewed and spit out. That's why I use Irfanview {it's free, saves in any format and you can edit compression level, resamples and resizes, opens any format, and does other cool things}.

I've never had any problems with MS Paint before. That said, I totally agree with you that Irfanview is far superior. I merely mentioned Paint as a program that most people have.
