My Art gallery/ The Art of Dave R

In this year and hopefully years to come I am planning on showing my art work for people to see. For a while now I have been talking about how good of an artist I am and well never showed you my work except for a few here and there. I think it is time for me to show all of u my stuff. I am not expecting much of a response because of the rep I have on these boards. I know that I am not the greatest member here and I am a far cry from ever being someone who is brilliant. but my work will be posted here in this thread for the world to see. My first edition, I am currently working on at the moment and its a surreal painting. Hopefully I can get it done quickly for you guys to see.

Mainly I will be posting at random on this thread updateing it everytime I finnish a piece. Of course as for respect to OW I will post an OW themed painting every now and then. I give you "The Art of Dave R"

Paramiteabe...

Edit: Hm, this looks ranty. Don't take it personally, but this is something that's been nagging at me a long time, now - since before the forum-split ages ago, certainly.

:
I am not expecting much of a response because of the rep I have on these boards.
NO-ONE on these boards has EVER seemed to post much in the way of responses to art, except Alector (when she was here more) and Middlesboogie (ditto).
And yaknow, I think that reputation might be, in part, something to do with your saying things like this:
:
For a while now I have been talking about how good of an artist I am
- that's guaranteed to put a lot of people's backs up, make them think "what an egoist little arse, his art isn't that great". And to be blunt, from what I've seen of your art, it hasn't made me leap around in adulation - granted, you were using a digital camera, and they tend to mutilate art beyond all recognition unless you're a professional photographer, but... *scratches head* To say "I'm a very good artist" immediately raises the bar and makes a person expect something amazing, something Da Vinci standard. And yes, you are a fairly good artist, but I'm sorry, I think you need to take a step back and reevaluate, like I did when I thought I was the world's greatest artist. Looking back on things I have to laugh at myself, since I was far from brilliant, but when I saw my flaws and tried to overcome them I DID get a lot better. I'm still nowhere near the standard of those artists I admire but I'd like to think I'm getting there, as I have a goal to aim for. If you say "I am a great artist" you have no goals, and you don't get any better. Plus it reminds me a little of Naxos - he effectively demanded that everyone stopped posting art until they were better drawers, because he was almost "the greatest artists ever", and when he came to actually POST his art, it was... well, lacking. Average at best.

I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings, here (and I absolutely don't mean "stop drawing, you're pants" like a certain Fishbone went around the forums ranting), since I know you CAN draw (particularly still-life type drawings), and I enjoy looking at your art (so keep posting it, 'kay? ), but please... lay off the "I'm such a great artist" a little? A little humility goes a long way.

I agree at 100%.
I could show you French Art from Supinfocom, their drawings are really awesome (and so mooore !), but no one there pretends to be a great artist.
Teal you are right !

PA, I was commenting on your past behaviour - describing your drawings as "stunning", per se. No overt offence was intended, and if I hurt your feelings I apologise; it wasn't intended as an attack, more of a... I don't know, just to show you how you looked (to some people) from the outside.

Yeah...
I still remember the time when Naxos yelled at everyone who "forgot the shadings and some details". I don't want to show off with my art for instance but I know some people who haven't reached my "standard" yet but they tell me that they're better than me.
Well, such things don't bother me, but it's still adequate for an artist to "keep the mouth closed" discreetely (sometimes).

You seem to like Surrealism. I'm a big fan of Salvador DalĂ*.
So, don't be shy and show as much as you can.

(*teacher comes back into classroom*)

See you soon

Alector
