Chapter 2
Standing before her was another like her, only a male. He was slightly larger then her, had dark green skin, yellow eyes, and spines that went from halfway up his neck to the tip of his tail. His eyes looked her over with a kind gaze and he rumbled slightly.
“Well yer look alright.” He said with a kind smile, “Name’s Spider, and yer are?”
She looked at him puzzled, not quite getting what he was saying. He looked at her with a somewhat concerned look on his face.
“Can yer speak?” he asked.
Somehow, she managed to figure out what ‘speaking’ was and managed a few words: “I…can…little.” She said.
“Ok…do yer have a name?” he asked, and waited patiently for her response.
“What is name?”
“It’s what yer call yerself, like my,” he pointed to himself, “name is Spider.”
When she didn’t respond he said, “Yer don’ have a name?”
“Don’t know…I…don’t remember…anything.” She said with a sigh.
“Yer have no memories of yer past or who yer are?”
“No…” she sadly shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes.
“Hey, don’ cry…” he said as he nuzzled her neck comfortingly, “Yer will remember, jus’ give yerself time that’s all.”
Tears still streaming down her face, she pushed herself up against Spider’s chest. Spider, a little surprised, wrapped an arm around her comfortingly. “It will be ok, I promise….” he rumbled softly. After a few minutes she calmed down and pulled away from him.
“What can I do?” she asked.
“Well…yer can stick with me as it is obvious that yer can’t really fend fer yerself yet…”
“Ok, what do we do now?”
“First lets get out of the open. Ter many dangerous critters roam about out here. Follow me.” Spider then turned and started heading for a patch of trees. He looked back occasionally to see if she was able to keep up and noticed she was still a bit wobbly with her walk, he slowed his pace. After a while they reached the shelter of the trees and she laid down, tired from the walk. She whined when her stomach rumbled painfully.
“Hungry?” Spider asked. When he saw her nod, he said, “Alright, I’ll be right back.”
She whined in panic when she saw him start to run away from her. He stopped and turned back.
“I will right be back, I promise.” He said as he nuzzled her reassuringly before running off again. She watched him run all the way back to where they were before. She saw him pick something up in his jaws and start running back. As he came closer she realized that he was carrying the now limp body of the creature that was threatening her before. He dropped it in front of her when he arrived, and laid down beside her, panting slightly.
She looked at the body, not quite sure what to do with it. Spider noticed this and bit into the carcass, ripping it open. He then ripped off a piece of the flesh and handled it to her. She looked at it a moment, then took it from him with her jaws. She chewed a little, then swallowed. By then Spider had another piece ready for her and she took that too.
After a while she was full and felt sleepy. She snuggled up next to Spider, who again was surprised, and fell asleep. Spider sighed, ate his fill, and fell asleep as well.
