Do you mean the glukkon head towers that are shown in the stockyards on AO?

And for the native,do you mean thoose towers when you are on Elum running away from bees?

Thoose are the only towers I remember....

Xavier beat me to the thread, I was going to ask which out of 5 different kinds of tower MM meant, but I'm convinced he means the 3rd of Xav's pictures, and apologies if I'm wrong. The first one made it into the game, albeit unimpressively, and the second isn't a very well known building. I reckon the second is like a perimeter alarm, used to alert security at the sign of any hostile forces approaching the Glukkons' factories in the Wilderness Region.

The third one is tricky. There are many of them, as seen in numerous pictures, and they do have canons on them (You can see canons integrated into the exterior of Sloghut 2813 in the Mudokon Fortress level of Munch's Oddysee.), so my current guess would be that they're slightly more advanced defence towers. My first idea when seeing them many years ago, though, was that they were weapons storage, armouries.

But in truth we really don't know.

Well these third towers you posted Xav I know for a fact are called Slig tosses. And well in theory I believe the cannon on top was used to shoot native Mudokons down below with consumer products. Munch integrated the concept of consumer products used as weapons by the Industrialist. In the early stages of Munch there was these helecopter vehecals that droped vending bombs down on Natives where it had a small cannon on top of the vending machine that shot consumer products and bullets. And maybe these towers did similar things that the vendings bombs do. Instead now you have a scenerio where native Mudokons are in the facinity of these towers and the sligs inside start blasting away at the native Mudokons to make cheap slave labor for the Glukkon franchises. Sort of like slig guard towers anyone who enters in this area will be shot at or turned into a slave by consumer goods. But thats in theory so I dunno. The reason its called a slig toss is because Abe would make his way to the top to save the Mudokon and then throw the slig out the window hense Slig toss.

Surley the Industrials didn't call the towers "Slig Tosses," or else that would be like inviting some dudes to kill ya.

They weren't called Slig Toss. But that last image with the Slig falling was an example of a situation called Slig Toss. Where Abe had picked up a Slig and hurled him through the window.

It was an example of all the different methods of ridding yourself of your enemies.

I would've thought that the primary reason for the towers would have been like the old (medieval) guard and watch towers. Even sentry towers, for both the natives and the industrials. Meaning it is basically a keep where they can be garissoned for protection, and can defend it by launching projectiles out of windows, such as burning oil, bullets or bombs.

After seeing the Slig Toss video, where Abe is on the top floor of one such tower, it doesn't exactly strike me as a keep, more of just another random place where mudokons are used a slaves... *shrugs*

time to clear up some things...
the third tower type is called "Guard Tower" quite simply, look at the picture in attach

And Max is true, the first type did make it in the game:

It took me a fair while to read and understand that writing, so I'll replicate it here.

"Guard Tower / surrounded by camera sferes [spheres] that tape incoming Mudokons. Whitch [which] are surrounded by even more spy camera. The tower is in a canyon surrounded by a city."

I don't think Mr Babbar is good at the English language, at least in writing. I love the camera spheres, though - they look like a cross between a Guardian Angel, a Meetle and a Vykkers Pod. And what's this about a city? *runs off to updated various documents*

I dunno I think it would literally be called a Slig Toss by the industrialist. Think about it Sligs are bred to be task masters and despensible solders and police of the Magog Cartel right? Well I believe Sligs are ment to be born to literally die. They are born task masters literally. Think about it all over Oddworld at least Mudos there are hundreds of sort of Slig vending machines or slig despensors. As soon as a slig is born he gets his pants and gun or granades etc and goes off and does his job. Everytime a slig dies someone can pull a lever and another slig would pop out of a pipe or despensor some where. just like vending machines. If you ask me Sligs are like liveing breathing product weapons used by the Magog Cartel. As sick and twisted that may sound it suits Oddworld in the most perfect way. Death on Oddworld is sort of second nature to Industrialist. Its as if Sligs don't worry or really care about it when they die they are replaced by more sligs. Its almost like an infanite assembly line of sligs. Where they are kept is the question which I myself have an intriegueing concept on.

I can imagine the Slig queen Skyllia is attached to a huge pipeline which is surgically connected to her abdoman that leads into a huge chamber that looks sort of like a Honey comb. Spreading out are hundreds of thousands of seperate pipes attached to the main pipe line. Leading out into different directions across Mudos possably underground. When a slig dies Skyllia is constantly giveing birth and as the slig travels through the pipe he gets his gear and pops out where that slig died or where ever there is a lever.

So anyway back to the topic I believe they would be literally called Slig Tosses because as sick and twisted as that may sound Sligs are put there to be thrown out as maybe a projectile. Which is example of a unieque way of defending ones self from intruders. They use them selves as weapons. Now that is Oddworld sick humor for ya! But once again its only another theory

What is the logic in calling them slig toss towers? There is none at all. The towers are there for a reason, in the video we can see that there is a mudokon slave. He is obviously there for a reason and thus, the tower is. The slave works at the tower doing whatever needs doing, the sligs are there to keep guard and be the general figures of authority. The towers than are not for watching/guarding etc will have some other purpose, such as processing meat, but in tower form. The video was only called slig toss because Abe threw a slig out through a glass window where the slig fell to its death. The video was demonstrating a manveuvre in the game called the "slig toss". I highly doubt them calling the towers slig toss towers. That's just stupid...

Like Esus said, there's no logic behind them being called Slig Tosses. I doubt they're called just Guard Towers, since that sounds more like a description, and there are already constructions vaguely refered to as Guard Towers in the Stockyards and the Slig Barracks. There's probably a more precise term for this exact variety of building, and it would be useful to know, but not necessary.

PA, Sligs are born as larvae and are 'raised' in a Slig Birthing Complex before they're fitted with machinery, or possibly this is where they're fitted with machinery while they grow. I wouldn't put it beyond the Glukkons to speed up growth with hormones, though. However, I do like how you describe Sligs. Alf or Crig once compared Sligs' lives for those of butterflies - short and generally pointless, ending as soon as their purpose is finished.

However, more prolific, even celebrated Sligs, such as Crig, the Valet Slig and the Newscaster, would probably be more respected by the Industrial society.

Let us also not forget the Native's Windmills, which are tower-esque. I've always thought these were used for a type of energy harnessing force or possibly a way to help power irigation. I know that Mudokens tend to take shelter in them when danger is near due to thier strength and design, but thats about all I know about them.

The Industrial tower, could have had more to it that we may not have seen, in the videos. I would have liked to see a CEO's office like in the larger factories, etc.

The one tower where the slig ran up to the top to sound the alarm was definately like an outpost, or guard tower. Or atleast it appears to be.

Same would apply for the Mudokon one, just the difference that it is a native watch tower.

The Native Windmills were also used to store supplies. Thus, the windmill could also be used to crush food into fine granules. In early production pictures you can also see thin Mudokon-like stick outlines surrounding the windmill, in front of each doorway.
