A new suggestion that needs feedback.

Dear Staff/Members of OWF,

Note: This was originally posted by myself in the Employee Lounge. The staff has voted on the topic, but we also need all member feedback. The rest of the staff will probably copy over any posts in EL, that they wish to be part of the discussion, and also show their own decisions.

It has come to my attention and to most of the members and staff, that we have a problem that has worsened in the past couple of weeks, and now hit a peak at the current time. New members are constantly spamming, even memers here for the past few months. This either is poor following or failure to read forum rules, or just a way they feel they can boost their ranking on these forums, by boosting their post counts to look "cool". Well seeing that they will not stop, and even though they have been warned they dont seem to listen. I have a radical idea to attack them from the very idea that makes them believe they are going to be better than anyone else. I propose the following:

I believe we should get rid of the post count reader under peoples names. I believe that if possible the post count should be put inside the members user cp, so that they can know how many posts they have but it is not shown to the whole community.

We can still have rankings from Slurg to whatever still, but the post count is invisible to the community as a whole but then if the member wishes to see how close they are to say being a Vykker Scientist they still can.

I feel that this is a first step in getting rid of our spam problem. I hope you agree. But if you dont I would also like to have your feedback. I was looking through a few other forums I found, and they oringinally had post counts and now they no longer have and its helped them get rid of their spam problems and problems througout the ranks. thankyou for reading the previous suggestion.

Yeah, sounds like a good idea. It won't eliminate all spam, but it will get rid of a good hunk of it.

That is indeed a practical idea. We really don't need the post count. It will get rid of spammers maybe not all but mostly. It can really help the problem we have here. Plus you won't have that attitude where the membors are thinking they are cool or better than others or what ever that may be.

We don't need that and I am all for it. Its cool with me.

sounds, good and if it goes in motion it should stop all the spamming! if it doesnt, then Al and the mods and adim of OWF willl have to think of a new way!

I think it is a very practical idea. I would personally hope that it would stop this seriously annoying spam that the new members continually write.

Okay, the post counts on the induvidual posts are now gone, so I guess we will have to see if it helps any.

Why? If you have a big post count when you have only been here...like...not long then that will only draw me in to attack you verbally and verbally punish you for your geekness and incompotantness.

From now on anyone whom spams to raise their post count and to seem "cool" will be severly, verbally battered by me. Anyone who then tries to protect that person will have their post disected and every bit of it ridiculed for my own personal arousal...

Okay, for starters, you best quit posting everything you find "fun" because it usually isn't. Second, you have only been here for a week or something outragous like that, quit trying to be "notised" as you like to put it. And lastly, you will never be a moderator simply because you lack the ability to moderate anything and your spelling problem.

Hey, can you at least make it so we can see our post count in our personal profile? I mean, if you want to get rid of spam, get rid of the stars and ranks instead of the post count.

Well I'm going to go on the record in saying that I think this is a bad idea. I can not see this stopping Spammers at all. If anything, it will enhance it. If you only have titles and Stars to go by then everyone will want a new rank. And considering that some people here can't tell the difference between a Slig Bouncer and Slig Armored Popper or tell the difference between a Vykker Shot Doc and a Vykker Scientist then they will spam until they are something that they recognise. And if you want to see your post count all you have to do is look in the member list. Wow, that's really hard to do isn't it.

The problem I see here is not necessary the spammers, it's those Stupid idiots who says stupid things like This is Spam or Stop Spamming. They are getting post counts when all they are doing is giving their opinion about a post. And chances are it has nothing to do with the original topic. Now if you look at This Post, it's stupid, but as soon as someone says it's spam, it kinda changes the original topic. And if someone didn't say it was spam, chances are most people will think its stupid and not respond to it anyway. So I would Hunt Down those Stupid Anti-Spam people, because they Spam more than the people who they think are Spamming.

And ultimately, if you really want to stop Spamming in Off Topic, then just make it so that no one gets any post counts in there. That way if people do spam, then it wouldn't matter because they won't get post counts anyway. Yes, the topics and replies that do deserve post counts wouldn't get anything, but who cares, because after all, this is the Oddworld Forums not the Off-Topic Forums.

But still there is a lot of spam and what do we do about this problem? I suggested to bring back the delete option in my other topic to maybe all of us could do our own part and clean up this mess were in. But I just don't see that happening. What do we do about all of this? Takeing awey star counts won't do anything just as much as you claim how the takeing awey our post counts won't do anything. But what it is doing is a start and I feel it can work but we need to do something that would last. But what?

I also balieve that the only reason why we have this out of control problem is because we have literally ran our selves dry with ideas. This is a crises, OWI hasent said anything since Munch's release. We have been paitent we have been trying to put interesting conversations and discussions over theories and new ideas but it just is becomeing old and not so interesting! But I could say there are definitly some promises to keep us alive like my thing on "Arctic regions in Oddworld." You know what we need? We need something new to happen with Oddworld and when that happens I can promise you this problem could be resolved. But until that does happen I feel we will still be seeing this persist. But what Al suggested was a good idea and a great start for the long run in regulateing spam. It may not be the cure but its definitly looking towards a perminate solution.

Now if the rules have to be more strict then before than that might be what could happen as a result of this. I don't know I am only a member.

I think the only way to get rid of spamming is that the moderators/supermoderators/admin actually delete the post that is the spam. So whats the point of spammers spamming when their spam just gets deleted.
