Eibu is leaving...

...not really!

But you will probably seeing less of me! Hey I can hear you cheering, stop it or at least wait till I leave!!

Anyhoo, I got Final Fantasy X and unlike Jak & Daxter it's probably going to take me a little more than three days to beat. Hell I'm only 3hours 11minutes into it and I've only had instructional battles!! It's amazing and breathtaking.

Plus while I'm playing this X-Mas will roll over and I will recieve my X-Box and Munch's Oddysee with it (oh wait, I'm not supposed to know that). So many games, so little time.

Well wish me luck (hopefully I'll complete FFX w/out cheating [don't have Gameshark yet anyway]).

BTW, saw Lord of the Rings w/my girlfriend and 6 friends tonight, it's awesome! It's LONG, but the entire 3 and a half hours is jampacked. Take your girl to see it and she'll be on your arm the whole time! One of my friend's bladder almost exploded...

Ja ne!, See ya during my bathroom breaks!!!!

Oh man this is not working to plan...In my perfect version of my winter break I'm playing FFX while my girlfriend sits on my lap but instead...

My Russian cousins (I'm Asian and I have Russian cousins - go figure!) came in. Actually my uncle married a Russian woman and live in Colorado (good looking for 40's) and her two kids, Dennis 17, Olga 12 (don't let the name fool you, she's a cutie) are staying in my house.

Dennis is party animal. I've been known to get my drink on but he does it every weekend (and some weekdays apparently). My guilt and manly pride want to show him a good time but my true self just wants to sit in my basement and play FFX while BS'ing with my friends. Plus Olga is a bundle of energy (she'll make a guy happy some day, is it wrong to say that?).

To top it off my sister, her husband, and her two kids, 14 & 7, are coming to stay here. They are actually no problem, I know how to handle them.

So: my parents + cousins + sister's family + mooching friends + me = 13 people living in my house till after X-Mas!!! That's a lot of personalities under one roof...

There really is no point to all this I guess, I'm just venting using a little quiet time at the computer. Well I just got back from dropping my friends off at their homes and now my cousins are playing Jak & Daxter (which means no PS2 for me... )
You would think after being up and traveling for nearly 20 hours they would be tired...

I agree with Eibu. The Lord of the Rings is one of the best films ever! If Tolkien were alive, he'd probably be jumping with glee.

Eibu... a question about FFX if that's OK.

Is there an option to turn the voices off (or down) during game play? I finally saw some of the Japanese version on the weekend (it was on a video, someone had recorded the gameplay), and I was impressed. But I found that the voices were louder than the music.

Because I am a fan of Final Fantasy music, I love to play the games and turn the music up loud (it is an important part of the game for me). It would be dissapointing to me if I couldn't do this with FFX, as I love the music from that game too. I would be happier with loud music, no (or softer) voices, and to read the text on the screen.

I do not have the game, but I do have the demo and the voices are fine. (I'm buying the game some time this week.) I thought the voice acting would be bad, but it's very good! I don't see why you would want to turn it off...

Yes, Mr. Eibu person, I tend to dislike 'popular' stuff. Metal Gear, Final Fantasy (well, past 7. 7 was the grand final'e for me.)Lord of the Rings (I tend to dislike alot of movies though.) eh, it's rarely that I like really hyped stuff. Although I do tend to like it sometimes, I'll usually just stick to the more unpopular but (in my own opinion..) better games. Silhoutte Mirage anyone?
Edit: Again I edit another post.. but hey, you said everything you like I hate right? Well we both like oddworld, so nyah.

I've heard the voices on the official FFX US site, and they sound good and suit the characters. I guess it's not so much that I want to remove them completely, it's just that I love the music, and I don't want it to be heard as "background" music which is what it seemed like in the Japanese version I saw.

To Abe Babe-sama: No I haven't found a function to turn off the voices, the only way to do that would be to manually push the 'X' button (O in Jap) to skip their speech during the game. However the voices never impede the mood, and there are plenty of "silent" moments where the music is very powerfull.

To MOTM-san: Ah, I have a friend like that who will like something until it becomes popular then he says, "Oh they SOLD OUT, I can't like this/that/them anymore!!"...
Personally I like whatever I just happen like whether it be 'popular' or not.

Now here we go...MERRY F**KING X-MAS!!!...I'm a little peeved because my X-Box is DEFECTIVE!! First the front loading tray wouldn't eject so we called customer service. They told us to JAM A PAPER CLIP INTO IT! Well after jabbing for a half hour we finally got the tray to come out just fine...but now it won't read any CD's, game or music alike...

SO NOW I have to wake up at the crack-ass of dawn tommorow morning and wait for Toys'R'Us to open and hopefully get a replacement...DAMN YOU GATES!! DAMN YOU~~~~!

::carresses his copy of Munch's Oddysee::
Someday, we will be together

Well I guess it's more FFX for me! Only 16 hours into it you know...oh shit, my cousin wants to go out. Being from Russia he doesn't understand the concept of nothing is open on X-Mas day, guess we'll go see a movie *sigh*...

The word for people like MOTM is "Trendy-Militant". I get like that sometimes, but only because what's popular tends to be shit anyway...

To you all, I say, "Psh."

I like what I like, and don't like what I don't like, popular or not. The Matrix = popular: I love it. Dragon Ball Z = popular: I don't love it. Oddworld = unpopular: I love it. Osama Bin Laden = unpopular: I hate him.

:

MOTM doesn't seem extremely trendy-militant. He doesn't like most popular stuff because he doesn't like it, not because it's popular. People who say, "It's popular, so it must suck" are just as bad as people who say, "It's popular, so it must be good!"

Abe Babe: I still don't understand why the music is THAT important... It'll be just like the old FF games, only the voices won't be inside your head. It'll be perfectly fine and shouldn't subtract from anything at all.

Here's a not-so-nice Tale:

Sometime during this year my parents caught wind of my want for an X-Box, since that's what I told them my main motivation for getting a job was. In mid October they reserved an X-Box bundle from Toys'R'Us. On launch day November 15th they picked it up.

Now I was sure they had got one for me but I had no idea they got a launch X-Box. Fastforward to December 25th, X-Mas day.

Within 5 minutes of unwrapping the heavy unit I set it up on the upstairs big screen. Everything was smooth. I turned it on, entered what language, the time and date, the options screen alone was cool. Then we decided to put in a game...that's when the perverbial shit hit the fan.

The disc tray would not open more than a 10 of an inch. I called the tech support line and they told me to JAM A PAPER CLIP INTO THE MANUAL EJECT! So there I am jamming away for a good fifteen minutes on the phone with this dude until he says he has to go and tells me to keep trying. After a half-hour of JAMMING I finally get the bloody thing to open! VICTORY! Or so I thought...

For some reason or other I had to leave the house for a few minutes but told my cousin to try a game. When I returned there was the Options display still on the screen and my cousin's head, shaking back and forth. Apparently the X-Box wasn't reading the CD's. It wouldn't read games or music and we even tried a DVD even though I didn't have the kit. Nothing.

We call Tech Support again and here was their expert advice:
1. Are you sure it won't work?
2. Are you sure it's plugged in?
3. Try turning the power off and on?
4. Oh well just exchange it.

F**king brilliant!

Well I was pretty dissapointed but didn't show it on the outside. While I do want to play Munch's Oddysee and the other great X-Box titles I am just VERY THANKFULL my parents thought me worthy enough to buy this not-so-cheap item for me on this day of traditional commercialism. I have plenty of game systems including a PS2 and I know I'm spoiled. But out of everyone my mom was the most upset and was ready to f**k some sh** up!

Anyhoo I knew what I had to do...I packed up the Ex-X-Box back into it's black/green coffin and prepared myself to go to rise early the next morning, the most hellish day of the year...THE DAY AFTER X-MAS!!!

After waking up at an hour, which I thought was outlawed, this morning, the 26th, I threw on some dirty laundry and drove my dad to Toys'R'Us. We arrived early enough to be third in line. By the time the doors opened the line was winding around the large building.

Once we got in and to the makeshift return counter they told us there were no more in stock and all they could do was refund our money. We asked if we could just recieve another X-Box when the next shipment arrived and the 'kind' ladies told us that THE guy who was in charge of the game department was convienantly "sick"!! That's when they asked for the credit card...

My dad uses cash when at all possible and doesn't carry all the same cards as my mom who was the one who purchased the X-Box! Damn. I then drove back home, quickly told my mom the story, got the card, and hurried back. Well we weren't about to wait in that monster of a line again so we just pushed our way through the surly crowd and luckily the 'kind' ladies remembered us. They re-charged the card.

That's when I thought, "My mom planned WAY in advance for this and now we get screwed?" This wasn't right, so I asked them to take our name down so we could get first dibs on the next shipment. They told us they couldn't do that but the would give our name and number to THE elusive "guy" who is in control of all of the Power Road Toys'R'Us video game destinies.

So now after spending a nice day with my girlfriend and holding in my grubby hands a FFX strategy guide I'm a little bit calmer, a little bit wiser. Not to say I didn't check every store in a 50 mile radius to see if they had any of these green devils in stock, but whatever...

The End.

Moral of the story kids, be early for things and get SCREWED!!!!

I know exactly how you feel... I was in (almost) the same situation with my Xbox. I had never told my story online, but now might be a good time to share it (I know some were curious).

Go back to pre-launch day. I'm in Australia and I want an Xbox/Munch badly and don't want to wait until March 2002 when they come out here. I don't want to get a bundle because it doesn't have everything I want. Solution. Rope an employee from our US office to buy me an Xbox and Munch. Better still he's returning to the US TWO days after launch.

Come launch day, I'm up early for OddChat and am wondering if I got an Xbox or not. I email my work collegue and he said he got an Xbox. From the third store he went too (which was Toys R Us incidently). They had also sold the last one while he was paying for mine. So I'm over the moon. Some people from OWI were in OddChat at the time and I was pretty excited.

Three days time (allow for changes in timezone) my work college arrives complete with Xbox. I can't believe it as I take the console out of the box. He thought to get me a copy of Munch too (even though I forgot to ask him about it). So my lunch break comes along and I wander down to my local electronics store (which was a major chain store) to get a power converter (otherwise it won't work here in Australia). In I go, Xbox in hand and the people there are amazed at what I have. Then the idiots (and that's the only word for it), went and plugged the WRONG converter in. Instead of something that converts voltage, they put in just a plug converter (the kind of thing you'd use for a hairdryer). So there's a bang and a bunch of smoke comes out of the back of my brand new Xbox. I'm in shock. They'd blown it up.

So what now. Try and get it fixed in Australia? I ring Microsoft here and they don't have anyone to repair them yet. I don't want to take it to anyone else as it would void the warranty. The only thing to do is to get it back to the US. My workmate is returning back to the US at the end of the week, so have to send it back with him. But boy am I miserable. I feel as though everything I've been waiting for has been lost.

To cut short, Xbox goes back to the US, is repaired and is shipped back to me. About a month after the time I was meant to have it.

So now I have to go through the worry of getting the power converter again. I don't want to go back to the place that blew it up, so I go to one of their competitors. I also do a bit of research and find that I actually need a step-down voltage converter to convert from 220v to 120v. Anyway, what a difference this other store is. They know exactly what I need. I show them the Xbox (actually went there armed with all manuals, etc) and they look a the back and get me the converter.

I take it home, plug it in, and guess what! It works! So I'm now happily playing Munch's Oddysee.

So, Eibu, it may seem so bad at the moment, but it will all work out in the long run. I know it won't really make you feel better, it didn't when everyone told me.

Wow your story is much "worse" than mine!

First you have to get it to your continent, then a friggin store BLOWS IT UP!? Did they compensate for you?!

Oh I'm just a little dissapointed and anxious but I'm more concerned about my mom who was really pissed and wanted to knock some skulls on X-Mas morning. Besides I'm spoiled enough, just wish I could play FFX to "ease the pain" but right now the PS2 is in my room which is now my cousin's room (i'm on the couch) and he's asleep.

Oh well this is their last day!! I think we are going to go mini-golfing and play arcade games or something. Good clean fun before he goes back to Colorado to smoke weed and get drunk everyday. Speaking of.......
