The meaning of life is to serve our genes.
We are all slaves to the deoxyribose nucleic acids, the cistrons and the chromosomes coiled up inside each and every one of our cells.
Complicated though modern animals are, all that is needed for life to arise is a type of molecule than can make copies of itself. Hundreds of millions of years ago, DNA 'discovered' how to do that. Over time, DNA evolved protein coats to protect them form rival strands of DNA. These protein coats became the first cells.
Some types of DNA then found it was to their advantage to group together in colonies. Colonies became more and more complex until they became the first multi-celled organisms; with different types of cells in different parts of the body. You'll probably have seen enough documentaries to fill in the rest; squidgy blob evolves into fish evolves into fish/reptile thing evolves into reptile/mammal thing evolves into hominid evolves into humans. Although there were probably (!) a few more intermediate stages than that.
And the incredible thing is, DNA hasn't changed a bit. It's still in almost exactly the same form it was in when it first left the primordial soup.
It is our eternal master. We exist for the preservation of our genes and we are nothing more than our throwaway survival machines.
And there's not a damn thing we can do about it.
