OWF Minecraft Server Rebirth - Possible or not?

Long time ago, I discovered the Oddworld Forums thanks to Darkhoodness' video about the RuptureFarms map and all that stuff.
I noticed that there was a Minecraft Server for the OWF members too and the videos about it looked kinda fun. Well it's always fun when you play a game with some pals.
Minecraft was always fun with friends to me back in these days too, now I don't play it from a long time and all my friends I had those times are dead. But I wanted to play it again especially in multi, and I considered if a rebirth of the old owf server could be a real thing.

Now, I know how it died: The server was more empty than before and paying it was useless. And I think shutting it down was the right choice. I saw the end of it was pretty tragic and everybody was really sad about it, was bad to me to see how it ended
I wonder now if it's possible to make a new server for free. From 2012 to today a lot of things changed, and Minecraft did too. And I believe servers organization are now different, must be.
If I could I would try to setting up a server, but my computer is not powerful enough for sure to host and play a server in the same time. So if we do this someone else needs to host it. But the most important question is this one:

Is it worth to make reborn the old Minecraft OWF Server?

It's a choice that must be taken by all the (active and interested) members by discussing about it. I invite you to join to talk about it and let hear all your opinions. I specially want to hear what the old server's moderators and players think. Everyone's thought is important anyway.
My opinion is that it could be like just a simple server for all the OWF friends and not necessarily a big one like the popular ones. I don't know if it's possible yet, but if it is we could just make it with hamachi and that's it. A private server would be fine to me too.
Now, if you kindly can, tell what you think! Would you like to see the rebirth of an old great server? Or should we all leave the past behind?

The Minecraft server ran for quite a while and actually started being hosted on someone's computer. The problem with that is that it relies on those host being online for others to play. As the server grew we got around that limitation by hosting the server on a dedicated platform which cost money each month. There were no viable alternatives at the time to support a server that sometimes had 15 people at once playing on a pretty big map. And yeah, eventually people moved on from Minecraft, that's just how these things go.

Personally I'd like to see a game server like that again, just not for Minecraft but for some other co-op building game (one of the many Minecraft clones, if you will). 7 Days to Die, Rust, Ark, stuff like that. I think many of the old guys have really left Minecraft behind them.

Thank you for replying guys. I think making a server of other co-op and/or sandbox games could be a great idea too. Tbh I never played the three games Havoc listed but the idea in general sound really good. A Terraria server could be nice too.

Well looks like Minecraft is not really going to be something, I'll wait more to see if other opinions will come.
For the other games you guys and I suggested, here's the list:
-7 Days to Die;
-Rust;
-Ark;
-Terraria;
-Europa Universalis IV.
If we choose a specific game that we could possibly all play that would be great and we would think about something.

I tried to download the maps to see what you guys have done (and possibly use them somehow if the minecraft idea could be approved, if you guys would give the permission in that case) but it looks like the links are down. If someone can reupload them that would be awesome.

It's been years for me personally, I'd definitely join this if it were available again.

Terraria is something I'd get behind too since I've barely even played, it'd be an excuse to get my money's worth out of it. Now for ARK Survival though... That game is absolutely amazing. I stopped playing before long though because all the servers I tried connecting to were laggy as fuck... But it's a cool game nonetheless.

Personally, TF2 is another game I still keep going back to as well. I don't know if we'd bother making our own server for that though or just party up sometimes. I also like RTS games, like Starcraft II or Halo Wars - but I'm kinda shit at them to be honest.

I hear Guns of Icarus Online is also fun. And personally, if we're gonna go into the oldies, I still have love for a Halo CE server with a good list of custom maps. I also used to play this one old game pretty seriously - Enemy Territory QUAKE Wars, but I don't think anyone on earth plays that game anymore.... It's a shame, it was a nice run - it's basically TF2 but with the serious overtone of Quake II.

I also used to play World of Whoacraft but I've stopped subscribing ever since money and time became an issue. I'd come back to it in a heartbeat though if I were doing a bit better than I am now. Aside from that, I think Worms is also a great opportunity for us. Pretty much any of them, they're all the same game more or less but the best ones I have are Clan Wars, Reloaded and Revolution. And then there's the sort of meh but still fun ones that were 3D, now called Ultimate Mayhem.

The other admins are Nate (which is of course active) and Wil (which is not). Wariopunk, Scraptrapman and Phylum are the moderators.
We could actually make more active that group but only if we would play games from the steam store (so we can make events, use the steam chat ecc.).

In all seriousness, as much as we all had fun on the Minecraft/Technic servers, I think it's time to move on. I don't have many suggestions myself, but another survival game would be sweet.
