Who's going to go see it? I know I am! I have started to read the book to get into it (as I have never read the book before...only seen the animated movies years ago), I barely made a dent it in so far! (1008 pages eep, well thats the whole trilogy...)

I'm going to see it soon, Me and my Mum have read 'The Hobbit' and 'The Fellowship of the ring' soon we will start 'The two towers'

I'm definately going to see it! I read the books a couple of years ago and I absolutely *adored* them! I would recommend that people read the books before seeing the movie

I saw the trailer when I went to watch Harry Potter. Definetly, Im not gonna miss it!
People consider that the books written by Richard Tolkien actually were responsible for all this wave of fantasy-magic-RPG universe that has evolved in the last thirty years.
I've never read any of his books, but I intend to read at least one chapter of the trilogy, before the film comes out here, just to get into the mood of his universe.

That australian guy, Hugo Weaving, who was "the Agent Smith" from Matrix, will be in the movie, playing the role of Elrond.

Elijah Wood, that boy from "The Good Son", a movie with Macaulay Culkin, will play the role of Frodo, the Hobbit.

Is 'Richard' one of the Rs in J.R.R. Tolkien? Was that his chosen name?

I have read the book at least five times. I will definately be seeing the film.

I've read the books and are planing to see the movie by the way Rettick after reading them that many times you may want to try learning the language he made up (all I know is elves speak it and it starts with q)

HELL YES I'M SEEING IT! I read The Hobbit, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, The Return of the King, and The Silmarillion. They were all wonderfully crafted and beautifully worded.

I tried to read The Silmarillion, but it read like a History textbook, and I couldn't get into it...

I think the books are crappy but the movie is probrbly the best movie since THE MATRIX (I think the books are crappy because it has WAY to much detail for just one place but my dad said it would be better after a while..

Hi, Lantra. People said the same thing about the Harry Potter movie. I tend to agree in some way, but you can't compare a book to a film, they are completely diferent medias.

I recognise that the die-hard fans of Tolkien's books will be very nitpicking while watching the Lord of the Rings, trying to compare if every single detail was translated to the big picture.
In my opinion, people should relax, forget the books for a while and go watch this film, otherwise it will not worth it going to the theater or rent this film for any reason other that having a good time, for about three hours.

BTW. I really did enjoy the Harry Potter movie. It make syou feel that the book was somewaht squished to fit in two and a half hours, but that didn't ruin the overall experience.

I read the book twice (once when I was about eleven, then I forgot what happened and read it again when I got back to uni). I tried reading "Unfinished Tales" (Or "Stories," I forget the exact title) but that was a bit heavy going, and I gave up about a quarter of the way in. I may try reading it again... I read most of his children's books when I was verra little, though (even though I forget what happened in most of them...)

I just wish people would get the title right. In most reviews/magazines I've seen it mentioned in, they always seem to call it "Fellowship of the Rings"...

During my lunch break today I went out and bought six tickets for my friends and I for next Wed. after finals. I opted for 4:30 only because it's matinee and our group is filled with cheap bastiches...

Have you ever seen Christopher Tolkien's "Tales of Middle-Earth"? They were based on his father's notes, and there were about 15 volumes, no joke. They filled an entire shelf in a second-hand bookshop back in Haworth, and they weren't even all there... Tolkien made incerdible amounts of notes about Middle-Earth. He practically lived there - as soon as he thought of something about it, he'd go and write it down...

that would be a great thing to do making up an entire continent including about 4 cultures.(humans halflings/hobbits dwarfs and elves)

4 cultures? Are we forgetting that there are several different Human Cultures on Middle Earth, and ditto for Hobbits, Elves, and Dwarves, not to mention Ents...

the movie doesnt come out here in the USA until the 19th of this month. BTW I am up to chap 4 of 'The Fellowship of the Ring', thats about 2 hrs or so of reading...and I am not a slow reader either...

Apparently, David Bowie desperately wanted to play the part of Elrond, but was turned down. Hugo Weaving got the part, leaving Bowie sad and bitter. I thought Bowie would have made a wonderful Elrond.

sorry .what different cultures are there for hobbits besides the different parts of the shire? also are there any other cultures for humans are there besides roharim,(I have no idea how to spell it) the natives, lake town and the city (sorry again it's been awhile since I've read the book)
