Did Abes Oddyssee uses a song from a german band?

Hello everybody, I was riping the music from New 'n Tasty because I'm a huge fan of all Oddworld soundtracks, especially the first two.

Just in this moment I realize there is one track that covers nearly one entire song from one of my beloved bands "Einstuerzende Neubauten" (Collapsing New Buildings). It's the Scrab Nest Theme which seems to cover "3 Thoughts".

I think this can't be a coincidence. I'm not angry or anything like that because the song was published in 1993 a few years before the first Oddworld game come out. I'm just surprisied why Ellen might have done such thing.

Probably used the same sample. Happens all the time, there's nothing wrong with it. I made a thread where I found a few samples used in the Oddworld OSTs.

I'd personally imagine it's a coincidence, but that's just gut feeling.

I think it's just a similar rhythm. And there's only so many rhythms that sound good to a human ear.

The accent of the AO one is on beat 1, but in the other song it's on beat 4. Similar ideas, similar rhythm, but quite different. Either way neither of them are anything special and similar things could be found in lots of places if you looked.

Also the AO track is a bit more freeform - there's less distinct articulation on any of the notes, and sometimes I think they just tie into eachother.

I think the bass is different. The other low plucky string thing could be the same, and just with pitch shifting in the AO song, but at the same time it's such a generic thing it could easily be from elsewhere.

As an audio engineer I can tell you that both sounds almost definitely came from the same sample.

Yes, they do have very similar tunes but one sounds distinctly Oddworld, while the other doesn't. Generally the Oddworld themes have drawn a lot of inspiration from aboriginal music but and it's bound to remind other songs created by similar instruments. Probably not intentional but we will probably never know for sure

The original 2 games soundtracks weren't made from original compositions, they were comprised of many different soundbites on a Garageband-like software.

As a result of this, there's loads of Oddworld's music clips floating around out there in media from the mid to late 90's.

The songs happen to use the same sample, usually from some kind of sample library that musicians use for their music. This stuff happens all the time in songs...
