Idea The Prehistory of Oddworld

This is the thread to post all your ideas on the Planet Oddworld. History, prehistory, geography, other countries and continents, tectonics, evolution, politics, "before they were famous" character ideas, evolution, science, biology…
…Osteology…?

It doesn't matter if it's not official, the way I see it; OWI will never get even close to creating Oddworld in as much detail as our own world. And if something official is released that contradicts these fan theories, we can just adjust them to fit, or confine them to Necrum.
Bordering on fan fiction, please argue, debate, and get theories straight. Perhaps this can help to synchronise future fan fictions?

Please reply! I'll look like an idiot if you don't.

My first idea is for the northern polar continent. I call it Arctos, and it is crawling with Actosian, or Snow Paramites: Paramitus Maritimus. The Oddworld equivalent of Polar bears, they are white, furry, as tall as scrabs and just as grumpy.

Arctosian Paramites evolved from the ancestor of normal paramites during the last Ice Era (what I call Oddworld Ice Ages). When the Ice retreated, they were forced off of Mudos and confined to the Arctos and other northern wastes.

This is an awesome idea. I would post some of my theories, but I can't recall any at the moment. I'll be thinking, because this is one of the best threads I've seen in awhile...

Seems more like a Fan Corner like thing.

The geography of Oddworld is totally uppredicable. Not just with its enormity, but with the strikingly different types of geography found on little specks of land on Mudos itself, and only a small portion of Mudos for that matter.

This is just speculation on prehistoric Oddworld nor future Oddworld games that might have some aspects of your thories; however this is not official or engraved in concrete evidence.

No evidence whatsoever. It's all made up. Just like Oddworld *gasp!*

This is just for fun. To stir up some more creativity.

I'm starting to looke like that idiot I told you about....

Most of Oddworld's history is actualy made up by the fans. And undoubtfully Lorne liked some of the ideas he read and confirmed them.

Most of the Oddworld history is within the game`s storylines, and the fans are just speculating there thories.

Well I iamgine there to be a vaiety of different landscapes on oddworld. Its such a different planet that it could be totally in reverse-its tropical and hot at the poles, and icy at the equator. I've thought up a sort of tropical jungle environment, its certainly purely fan corner as its eventually oging to appear in one of my fics. If you look at the map of Oddworld over at oddworld.com, under Max's fan of the month page, you'll see there's some little islands below Mudos. That's where I've put my jungle world. I'd imagine there's all sorts of climates on Oddworld other than Mudos' climate-there's probably deserts, icebergs/ice plateaus, mountain ranges, jungles, volcanic plains, maybe even climates and environments that we don't get on earth.

Climates not on earth... I'm picturing a huge pit, huge as in miles wide, not deep, though it is deep. It's a sort of rainy basin, and the whole thing is full of shifting cloud, like in a gas giant. It may well extent high into the sky. There are clear pockets that you can see through, and it is full of huge flying animals. Flying, floating, hovering... And there are plains made of a sort of bouyant mosses, with weird trees and stuff. Perhaps mudokons live there, on the mosses, and ride in mud-tech airships, or on meetle, or maybe on little bouyant mosses, harnessed into vehicles... A kind of "sky" landscape. What do you think?

Well, if Oddworld is kind'a like Earth, maybe all the continents were once connected to each other, like Panama.
As fer the wildlife, maybe Scrabs stood on two legs, but hobbled over like some herbavoric dinosaurs.
And Paramites walked on their tassle-like teeth.
I've made a Paramite like it, nicknamed a "Scamper". It walks on its tassles, no legs, just a body, but has a scorpion-like stinger.
I know it sounds a bit...awkward, but I do think maybe Paramites were like that.

I'd think there would be a city of sligs who dislike mech pants. so, would ride slegs. perhaps that was how the sligs used to get around. then that would explain how the slog came to being domestic, sweet odd there could be a missing link! this is so awesome

Slogs were initally domesticated by the Mulletokon tribe of Mudokons, however the tribes' partying behaviour and brew addiction caused the Slogs to be neglected, and thus develop into the mean personas which they have today.
And Dark Elite, that paramite just sounds so funny, I'd love to see one walking about in Oddworld. Draw it and post it up sometime!

Don't you mean Pangaea?

On earth there are lots of similar creatures, closely related ones. On Oddworls we have only seen multiple varieties of slog type creatures (slogs, slegs, sloggies, sewer slogs, giant slogs etc) and some similar breeds of ammo. I cam up with some new paramite species: Dwarf or tree paramites Paramitus minimus: smaller arboreal paramites; Arctosian or snow paramites Paramitus maritimus: Large, white and furry like polar bears; and scrabanian paramites Echinodactyl scrabani: very small and spiny, Oddworld's equivalent of a thorny devil.

That would make our regular paramite Paramitus paramitus.

I would like to see prehistoric scrabs. Really large dinosaur-like ones would be awesome.

I'd think the Gloktigi family came first. it would explain why glukkons are a head of the game. And I'd guess that Vykkers would be sipping herbal tea by then

Maybe there are whale-like animals related to scrabs, like whales are to cows and hippos. Yeah, that would be cool.

Whale like animals related to Scrabs? Perhaps the ol' searex? You don't see them anymore, but they were mentioned once in the Wildlife section of the Universe section in oddworld.com

Apperently there was one in an early MO video release, but it was cut before the game was released due to technical difficulties. I never saw it.

Whoops.
I posted my Scamper in the wrong thread...here

Like I said, I believed the Scamper ran on its tentacle-like teeth, and had a scorpion-like stinger above it to catch prey.
Simple 'nuff, 'ey?
