Women and Shopping

There is a continuousness joke about the girls going Shopping and spending all of their money of useless items that they don't really need.

Now all I want to know is if this Myth is true? Are women money grabbing, item buying monsters or is this just a stereotype?

Hmmmm... Where are the MythBusters when we need them?

It appears true that most women enjoy shopping more than most men do. It's an unfair stereotype, some women hate shopping and some men love it just as much as these stereotypical women do.

Men buy junk too. I mean, who needs pocket pool or indoor golf practice sets?

I believe it all lies in the items you buy. And thats true, I mean, my mom HATES being in a mall. I just like getting new games for my systems but I can't stand the infestation of little crying children.

I only ever buy stuff I need as I need it. As far as I'm concerned, necessity is the mother of all shopping sprees.

Women will tend to go out without anything particular in mind though, they'll browse and buy a load of stuff that they didn't really know they wanted before they went out. And I think that way they render themselves a lot more vulnerable to adverts, marketing, and sales pitching.

I don't think this particularly means that they buy things they don't need, they just shop in a different way to guys. What is nonessential to one person can be like oxygen to another, too, and yet again women are different in this department, so I suppose a lot of what men see women buying could easily seem like junk when it's actually stuff that women really need.

The name for our copies of your London taxis, they all have 'Hackney Carriage' on a little sign.

Yeah, I suppose, but only if you love us too.

On topic: Yeah, I'd love shopping if I could get to Oxford street within 5 minutes.

Who cares? It's a crappy topic anyway. We solved the topic in the first few posts. I'd much rather chat about accents and regions with you anyway.

Yes. *gives them all shiny gold stickers*

When I go shopping I don't generally go out wanting something, but I wouldn't buy a pocket protector or a grilling machine made by L'Oreal [] just because I don't have one.

Even though you've already said that... I don't care... *sticks shiny gold star on self*

I'm not really stereotypical in my shopping ways in my opinion. I usually have to have something in mind for me to go out, but sometimes I do like going to the mall or music store just to look around.

When there is something that I must absolutely go out in order to get it, I'm pretty annoyed unless I'm going out for other more entertaining reasons too.

Yay! Me and soulstice are special!

I like going in the music store and looking around. I also like standing around in the guitar shop. I like shopping for clothes if I'm in the mood. meh, it depends if I feel like going on the bus into the city.

I enjoy not going in mainstream stores, because I am nonconformist.

Heh, nah just kidding, I got a thing for cosy backstreet independant stores.

Especially dusty cramped recordstores. There's this little place I go to top up my 12" collection, called "Dark Side", they got masses of underground drum and bass, jungle, and electro/ambient/avant garde records, you can find some real awesome tunes if you're prepared to sift. Since it's always highly likely that you've never heard anything from any of the artists there, you kinda just gotta go by what the names sound like... or just come up with random stuff like "I'll only pick out records by artists whos name begins with B A." or "I'll only pick out stuff from 1998" and take a pile of records to try out on the turntables. Weed out the ones you like, dump the ones you don't. You could spend a whole day there just listening to all these whacky sounds, and spooked out atmospheres, all while taking in the smell of dusty damp record sleeves and warm vinyls... the crackling of the records... the creaking of the floorboards... mmmmm it's like the experience of eating a tastey sandwich made flesh.

And you know, the most awesome thing about it is they have this attic that's got a sofa and some records, but most importantly a soundsystem and turntables. It's usually empty too, so you can go up there, kick back and enjoy your purchases. The guy who runs the shop occasionally does DJ lessons up there but if you've bought some records it's usually ok to go up there... he's so laid back and you can just get the most awesome sounds in the most awesome environment. So not like any other shopping experience.

1: Yes, its true that women shop a lot and buy stuff they don't need. Like the twentieth pair of shoes. At any one time you should have no more than 4 pairs. You get past 4, you have a problem.

Considering you said flesh instead of fresh twice, makes you illiterate, not me. The least you could do, is to admit you've made a mistake. Just admit it.

No. He means flesh. As in personified or a real feeling. Like the experience of eating a sandwich is made real by this shop. Or something.
