Y'know, to field a previous point, I reckon actually AO and AE took place pretty soon after each other, sufficient and undeniable evidence suggests this I mean c'mon, he sees the Weirdos as soon as he falls from the Monsaic Sanctum and goes to Necrum pretty much as soon as he sees them.

And I aggre with Dipstikk, we need to see what is behind Abe's latent chanting ability and Molluck's empire.

Molluck's character was never fleshed out as much as I would like.
As Dipstikk stated, his personality in the first game is muddied by our inability to understand him, and plans to bring him back for MO were scrapped. I want to see a Molluck with more depth (as deep as Glukkons can get anyway).

Now that's a point. Between AO and AE the style of the FMVs completely changed - The fact that the characters didn't really speak properly gave a sense of mystery. For the industrial characters, it added to the dark atmosphere of the game, since it made Molluck seem more threatening because you only saw hints of his personality. I wonder how that'll transfer across if AO is redone. Will they make him dark and threatening in a different way if they give him an actual speaking role?

I wonder how much of the actual FMVs will actually be redone? I mean it's going to be a hell of a budget to do better then the movies we have now, no?

I'd like them to take the opportunity to expand on the story by re-doing some of the FMVs. Lorne's hinted that there was more to Molluck and Abe over the years, and we never got that from their mumbling and voiceless in-game incarnations.
I liked that feature, like before the gas level it sounds like says "the cocky little bastard"

No, it sounds like he said incompetent, like he's irritated at the sligs for allowing abe to get this far. He looked really pissed at the end :/

Actually, when I first stopped to listen to what he says, I was actually able to understand every word.

If they were to implement 3D into this remake, alot of cool ideas could be conjured. Whenever a slig is destroyed, his body parts could pop out of the screen in 3D; or when abe is in the stockyards, the detection lasers could also be in 3D. If they enable 3D, it would be awesome, but I somehow doubt they will.

Well ground breaking FMV like the originals from AO aren't going to happen, that's for sure.

However I like the way Valve solved that with the Source engine and it's film maker. All the movie clips for Left 4 Dead and TF2 are done inside the engine with special settings enabled to create more detail on environment and characters. Basically they made models that were detailed enough for a FMV and then toned those same models down for actual use in-game.

A similar concept could be used in this case and if they do it right it wouldn't have to cost a whole lot.

I won't buy this game unless there is new content in it. I don't want any of the new cutscenes to have slapstick humor or one-liners though, I miss the dark atmosphere of AO and wouldn't want to see it ruined and would also like to see that atmosphere in the NEW Oddworld games.

I hope MO taught Lorne enough to not keep going in that direction. He should be smarter than that.

I thought Exoddus was very good, but it wasn't as dark or atmospheric (Is that even a word?) as Oddysee was.

I thought it was a sorta bad thing.

I totally agree. It's one of the major reasons why I prefer Oddysee. Mechanically, Exoddus is a superior game, but the overall atmosphere and feel of Oddysee is unlike anything I've ever experienced. And yes, atmospheric is a word. A very good one at that.

I know, it does seem a bit needy, but it's just a suggestion. Don't get me wrong, I'm over the moon about this release regardless, but I have high expectations. It's important to me that they throw all their weight behind this remake. And why not? Strangers Wrath is recieving Move support, so it's not unusual to see these new upgrades. Abe's Oddysee deserves 3D as much as any other PS3 game out there.

I actually like the way of storytelling in AE above AO. AO had relatively little story to go with it compared to AE, mostly because the side of the Glukkons in AO is completely neglected. I would love to see in the form of FMV's how Mullock reacts to Abe escaping much like the press releases in AE. It gives more story depth and character development IMO.

Also please retain the original difficulty factor, that was one of the best things about the game. I hated how easy they made Earthworm Jim HD, video games today hold your hand no matter what it seems >_>

I think they meant 3D as in 3DTV using, not actually 3D game. But I could be mistaken...

Yep, that's exactly what I meant. Apologies for the misleading post. It will have 3D TV support, which I think is exciting. Even though I don't currently own a 3D TV, I'm sure that when this game comes out, it will encourage me to finally purchase one. It's great to see these Oddworld games getting this deluxe treatment.

Well, in that case I could be wrong; but it's what Darren initially intented to ask about. Perhaps they didn't understand what he meant by "3D software".

I think he meant the game engine and that has been confirmed to be a full 3D engine used for a 2D platformer game. I see no reason why a platformer would benefit from using 3D tech for TV's and such. The only thing that could be interesting is seeing the FMV's in 3D, but then I would rather see them spent that extra money on upping the details of those FMV's.
