Doesn't anybody remember when the pillars came down and crushed 2000 people? So all these guys sought Jesus and when he found them they were like "J.C., what the !@#$ was that for! Man, those guys must have did some devious stuff."
And Jesus was like, "God did it for a purpose, but the tragedy wasn't to punish. Why did this skill 1000 people, why did this kill 3000 people. It was to fulfill God's plan."
Also, during that time people thought that diseases and blindness and things like that were because of sin. But Jesus said it wasn't a punishment after he healed a man blind from birth, he said it was to fulfill his purpose. In the case of the blind man it was to bring him to faith. So I don't think illness and natural disasters are punishments from God.
