I don't know, maybe it's me, but I feel huge difference when I e.g. look at Bioshock Launch Trailer (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoYorK3E4aM ) and 2K's next game's (XCOM) trailer from E3 (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdVb4UnqO7A ):
On the first movie I see interesting scenery, everything's really climatic (with old, happy music contrasting to drastic scenes I see), there's a lot of dynamism, creative-looking enemies and (semi) innovative gameplay mechanisms (you know, plasmids etc.). Some individual elements may look cliche, but the way the developers combine them is unique.
When I look at XCOM's trailer... well... okay, there's a city based on those from 'fifties, but it looks... just boring, there's no music - even for a moment at the beginning, then I see some characters: a woman and 2 men... the woman looks pretty ok, but when I look at that grumpy guy I'm confused and can't tell if it was supposed to be realistic or it's a cartoon... he just looks extremely silly, even for '50 standards... then we cut to scenes showing aliens moving and leaving bodies - I think it looks like a rip-off from a BAD lowbudget horror - 1:05 - "Oh no a dead body and no sign of the murderer *scream*"... then there's a gameplay scene with a shotgun... You're shooting shapeless aliens with a shotgun... and then you're shooting more of the same type of aliens with a shotgun... then you change a weapon to some sort of electric one and you zap the same type of aliens - I honestly think I'd be bored if I had to shoot the same thing over and over again (and I don't think i'd like to shoot many small round objects [it's annoying, it's ok if it's not that common]) - I know there might be some more types in final game, but it's a trailer and it's supposed to show the game from its best side... then comes "sucker" scene, which is neat, I have nothing to say here, but it's only less than 1/3 of the whole trailer...
