I don't see the appeal of Neil Patrick Harris. Everyone I've talked to has a huge boner for him, and I can't wrap my brain around it.

Like, to not give a fuck about him is one thing, but so many people have spoken of him like God descended from the heavens, squatted down, and pinched NPH out of his holy anus right in front of them. I certainly don't care about Doogie Howser, and what I've seen of How I Met Your Mother was nothing to write home about.

The fact that he was in that contemptible Smurfs movie doesn't help his case either. The critical consensus of that film could be summarized thusly; "Sucked... except for NPH". That's like saying Alec Baldwin saved "The Cat in the Hat".

I don't really care about Neil Patrick Harris. He's alright. I like Barney Stinson, though.

And nothing can save The Cat in the Hat.

Nothing.

Spartacus: Vengence.

So far its pretty good but it's hard to fill the void that is Andy Whitfield. The new guy plays Spartacus rather well but it's just not the same

Yeah, I don't like Dr. Horrible either. Forgot to mention that one.
I think the only thing I ever liked him in was Starship Troopers, and his role was tertiary at best.

It's not just NPH though. I have a problem with most "funny men", celebrities that build their careers on comedy as opposed to being more dynamic. There are, of course, a few exceptions. There are also some funny men who just aren't cut out for role diversity, such as Jim Carrey, but bless him he tries.

Also (and this is just me), I believe that for a funny person to be truly effective they also have to look funny. NPH is as plain as can be, and when he says something humorous, it almost clashes with his body language which is saying "I am not funny".

Crashpunk, shouldn't that go to Bits and Pieces rather than this thread?

Anyways, I've been (re)watching some South Park episodes, mostly from seasons 7 and 8.

If memory serves me correctly those are the best seasons. The show started to get kinda lame after season 8.

Burn After Reading was on TV tonight, just watched it.

I really liked it, especially Brad Pitt's character. "CIA shit, numbers and dates and shit!"

I'm also planning on watching Rum Diary today. Anyone seen it?

This isn't pertinent in any way, but I hate it when people say "I was meant". It implies that forces external to yourself intended you to do something, as opposed to "I meant" which implies that you yourself intended to do something.

Also, the "was" isn't necessary because "meant" is already the past tense of mean, and any additional words implying past tense are just superfluous, and redundant.

I recall an argument about the phrase. I'd like to think "I couldn't care less" won.

I fully support you on your former grammatical correction.

I think if it was a travelling sort of movie, wherein the brothers came upon the real-life versions of what inspired their stories, it would have been perfect. All of the references to classic Grimm's fairy tales in the movie were so shoe-horned and had little to nothing to do with the central plot (what little there was, anyway).

The gingerbread mud man and the scene with Hansel and Gretel (contracted to "Hans" and "Greta" for some reason) were completely thrown in for the sake of making it more of a "fairy tale" movie. From what I understand, the movie's entire production was a mess. Gilliam was at constant odds with the executives over final cut privilege, and as a result, almost all of the post production material was rushed.

The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror V. The one with the Shining parody.

Absolutely brilliant, every single time. One of the darkest, bloodiest episodes of any show to air during prime time.

Fantastic. I mean, who doesn't love "The Fog that turns you inside out"?
