Cloverfield was surprisingly tense. Acting was shit, and there was a fair amount of standard horror film fare as far as characters and monsters and whatnot. But the whole Handicam style of filming was really great. I don't think I've ever been as close to the edge of my seat as I was at the Newport Mall in Jersey City last night.

I just saw Bender's Big Heist. It saddened me, just like the episode with Fry's dog. It was very good however, had some terrible unfunny moments mind you.
Got it for Christmas, It's funny with the commentary, and the extras made it worthwhile.

Cloverfield was far from excellent, though, the only part that frightened me was when Marlena well...you know.

Ending sucked, half the characters sucked, Monster was decent, but got as much screen time as one of the random party goers from the start.

Nothing Blair Witchy about it apart from the shaky camera, where blair witch was claustrophobic and creepy cloverfield was just...ugh.

The ending was awesome. Recommended to everyone, though not everyone will like it. Only half of my group of friends did, but most of their reasons were as lame as Kastere's.

Yes, well, I'm just a bleeding heart fool who wishes that characters' they're attached to actually get a happy ending.

Just saw "The bucket list".

It was actually pretty funny, the ending was sad though.

I also got the strange feeling that I was gonna see old man sex sometime during the movie. Thank god I was wrong.

I don't care if I've posted it once already on this forum, it has more relevance here.

I saw El Topo last night, it's one of those films that require heavy attention and concentration, so I didn't really have that, gotta watch it a second time...

I saw Shortbus the other day. Amazingly, it managed to live up to the hype, though it did teach me how jaded I've become that I was hardly shocked at all by the hardcore sex. The wonderful thing is actually how sweet a story it is; it's ultimately a story about love. And it's damn funny too.

I never thought sex would be so amusing until I saw this film.

I'm sorry but I have to say I LOL'ed at that poster, for real.
There were some parts in El Topo that I actually couldn't sit through and pay heavy attention to even if I tried. I think you'll know what I'm talking about.

Just watched this movie Susperia. It is one of those movies that is both frightening and beautiful...which is something I always love. I hate these drab pitch-black horror movies nowadays, usually taking place in old hotels or something.

I haven't seen this movie recently... Saw it around Christmas. But this thread sparked some memories.

12 Monkeys. Old movie but beautiful one at that. It's really one of those movies that just stick with you. I know for one that it touched me, and always will be a part of me.

The whole concept and story just works so well. It was creepy though. The ending.
Just thought I'd bring back this movie I'm not sure how many have seen it, but it's definitely one that you should watch.

Also Nate, you made me want to watch Shortbus now x_x I do like.... Open minded movies

I've been warned to not watch that movie.

In the last couple of weeks I've seen Children of Men, Trainspotting, American Psycho and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Enjoyed all of them.
CoM was pretty dark and depressing.
Trainspotting was just great.
American Psycho is awesome and more people need to see it. Most quotable thriller movie ever.
ESotSM was a wee bit confusing, but I enjoyed it, especially all the interesting techniques used to show the memories were being deleted. Some really cool stuff in there.

I also bought Fight Club and plan on watching that soon, as I've only seen it once, and wasn't paying attention at the start because I don't like the name.

12 Monkeys is very cool! I haven't seen it in a long while.
Loved Children of Men, good soundtrack too.
Eternal Sunshine was quite good with the face erasion, don't know if I'd watch it again.

Yesterday I watched SOOTY AND SWEEP!

I saw Sweeny Todd on Saturday, and I liked it a lot. Depp was as hot as ever, I love Helena, and Rickman was as wonderful as he always is.

But that's from what I saw, anyway. I was pre-occupied with holding hands and other general lovey-dovey stuff with my date. To be honest, I had a hard-on for most of the movie

I have just seen... 8 1/2 Women, finally, after having watched half of it ages ago but was just too tired to go on. I loved its frankness about sex (the two main characters, a son and a father sleep together, then the father goes on to explain how his father was tall and had a big cock; cool, no?). And like the other Greenaway film I've seen, it felt big and archetypal, with a fairly strict structure, as this recently bereaved old-guy fills up his big ol' house with concubines he picks up from all over.

Slightly too long, probably, but quirky and very interesting, the sort of film the British film industry should produce more often, rather than dreary social realism (read: they're cheap to make!), uninspired period dramas and shit comedies.

The British make the best comedies American ones pale in comparison unless they have Kevin Spacey or Bill Murray in.

I certainly think Britain produces the best TV comedy in the world (saying that, I've yet to see it all), but our comedy films are mostly shit.

You both have an excellent point.

I shall shut up now and replace the name Kevin Spacey with Robin Williams.

Hmm, Sweeny Todd?

isn't that...

A) A section of the police "flying squad"

B) A british cop drama starring John Thaw

C) A Victorian barber who slit customers throuts and gave the corpses to a pie shop next do to turn into pies?

which is the film about?

The Lives of Others!!

Magnificent. A really understated, gorgeous piece of film. I was surprised about how thematically leaning it was toward art amongst all the political thrillering, although that may be my own interests warping the film. Long live Germany! The ending is perfection.

Atonement!!

Watched it again on DVD. Still fantastic. The ending is just absolutely devastating.

Was supposed to go see Sweeny Todd, and I really want to, it looks marvellous, I love Helena Bonham Carter, but we decided to drink some more instead.

And No Country for Old Men increasingly looks like a very thin, slight piece of film. I want to see it, cos it's the Coen bros, but the plot and character thrust from what I've gathered seems disappointingly simplistic. So much for the film made by adults, for adults. We shall see. I'm prepared to eat my words, delicious as they always are.
