I loved Moonrise Kingdom, but Rushmore is just one of the most beautiful things ever put on film.

So here we go. A Serbian Film.
I watched it because of it's reputation of the "most disturbing film ever made" and yeah that's pretty spot on. I didn't personally find it scary or disturbing but as far as films go it's probably the most fucked up one out there before you get into snuff films.

But you know what? It's really good.
Like yeah, it's really unpleasant but as a film, it's so well made. The directing, the writing, fuck even the characters and acting were just spot on. You really feel for this guy who has to do these awful awful things, and the whole tone of the film was just perfect. I don't know if I'd go so far as to call it art but it wouldn't be that far off.
I recommend it if you can stomach it.

Also, the music's fucking awesome.

The soundtrack is pretty good, on a creepy ironic note I just listened to a track from the OST two minutes ago. The film however, is cack. The actors are cack and the plot is as tripe as a cow's stomach.

Nah fuck that, it was bad. A few scenes were shot well and like you said the soundtrack was good, but everything else was just bleh. It tried so hard to be shocking and edgy.

So I encountered Transformers 4. It was fucking garbage. Here's an analysis it doesn't deserve.
Transformers 4 starts off very strong; there's a subversive sense of humor about the previous films in the series and Mark Wahlberg feels like a tongue-in-cheek self-insert for Micheal Bay, representing a creative force muzzled by things beyond his control. Unfortunately this is simply Bay trying to trick you into thinking this film has some kind of pathos or sentimentality. The visual effects are amazing as usual, particularly on Hound and Lockdown; an obese cursing autobot whose entire body seems to be made of ammunition and an unsettlingly dense 'evil' transformer who takes pleasure going all kali-ah on Autobots and tearing their robo heart/souls out. Being three hours long the film uses that ONE WEIRD TRICK to keep your ass planted through the whole thing in that you become so suffocated by the noise and wretched messy visuals that you can't pull yourself away until the angsty credits music brings you back to feeling emotions (mostly guilt, regret, shame, arousal and confusion).

High points:
-Mark Wahlberg is hilarious in this movie, intentionally or otherwise. However his earnest wonder at finding a dead transformer at the start of the movie is just endearing enough to make his character likeable.

-A man is literally kicked in the face by a car. Not by a transformer mind you, just some guy in a sort of dune-buggy who punts some idiot in the shnoz.

-Optimus Prime riding around on Grimlock (or whoever, the tyrannosaurus robot) is a pretty cool image and if both the hour of film leading up to it and the battle that follows composed the entire film it would be the best in the series and a decent movie.

-Optimus Prime ends the film by going all intergalactic schoolyard bully and threatens anyone who might attack earth, the super-vulnerable planet he just flew away from.

Re-watching Dexter, I can now totally see where OANST was coming from. It has some of the most obnoxious, unlikable characters in TV show history, mainly Astor, who one second is being a shit because Dexter was treating her like a little kid, and next minute she's jumping on the bed like a 5 year old. Make up your mind writers, is she a generic stereotypical teen or a generic stereotypical 5 year old?! Also, a lot of the side story arcs are insanely boring and go nowhere.
I can see all them flaws now, but I still enjoy the programme because some of the other characters are just so great (Dexter, Deb, Masuka, Batista), as well as the main story arcs which make it actually worth watching.

Stargate SG-1 is now my favorite Sci-fi ever. I swear, every season gets better and better. It's been a LONG time since I've been in to a show like this, I binge watch like 3-4 episodes a night.

I'm a bit worried about the last few seasons however. Apparently there is a major cast change and the overall opinion between the fans is split completely down the middle. I hope it doesn't ruin it. :/

In case anyone knows, Don't post any spoilers. I'll never forgive you.

I don't know if you've actually sat down and watched The X-Files, but it has a similar structure (monster of the week, interspersed with an over-arching mythology) and is, frankly, a much better show. I would recommend that.

Also, if you're into Sci-Fi, the first couple seasons of Battlestar Galactica are amazing. Major decline in the later seasons, though.

Yeah after SG-1 is over, I'm going on a Sci-Fi spree. Naturally, I'm thinking SG-Atlantis. Then probably what you've recommend OANST.

I'm sure if Pilot was still around, he'll be recommending Farscape to me non-stop, I have always wanted to watch it, so that's also on the list.

I watched Amazon's new show Transparent. I rather enjoyed it and it's interesting to see a drama working in 30 minute chunks rather than the usual 45-60.

Finally started Breaking Bad. Holy motherfucker this is an intense show. I'm fairly sure everybody ever has seen it, so I don't really need to sing its praises, but I'm loving every minute.

It took me the entire first season to realise that Walt is played by the same actor as Hal from Malcolm in the Middle. I am in love this actor.

I re-watched "The King's Speech". Fantastic watch for me, so much feels right. The first time I watched it was because my councilor told me to in sophomore year at high school because I had (still kinda do have) an awful stuttering issue. This movie also introduced me to one of my favorite songs, Symphony No. 7 by Beethoven.

Yeah you really don't get more tense than BB, except possibly Dexter, and even then Braking Bad is on a whole other level. If you've just started it then holy shit, you're in for a ride. It starts out tense and the tension just continues to build and build up until the finale, with every season being better and more intense than the last. Tension is the word of the day.

I heard some mention a while ago that WoF can open up the anime thread again, though I've never seen this mystical thread. There have been multiple anime I have wanted to talk about but haven't wanted to take over this thread again. I just want to know if opening that thread sometime in the near future is going to be a thing, because I'd sure as dandy would like to post about anime.

PM Nate or WoF about that kind of thing. Nate especially will gladly bump it to stop people crapping up this thread.

The problem isn't that it's closed for posting, either. It's that you can't replay to threads after 3 months(?) of no activity.

I just finally watched Saving Private Ryan. Wonderful movie, had just about everything I was wanting in a war film, all loosely held together with an awful plot. Had me to near tears at the end. The thing that made it so good to me though was that no one in the movie appeared to be the "bad guy" the German soldiers were human, and had human actions and responses. I ended up watching the movie because I badly want to see Fury but don't have transportation to a theater, so I tried to see if there were any other movies about tanks, after giving up and just deciding to watch a basic war movie I found my self here, then near the end of the film I got to see 2 Tigers and a Marder, so yaaay tanks.

Watched Trick 'r Treat the other night. I was expecting it to be a disappointment, especially going by the name, but it was actually a lot better than I thought. Not amazing, but still. Definitely a lot of fun and cool to see how all of the individual stories in the movie were slightly related to each other.

I thought Season 8 was great, but Mike Smith's real-life assholeness has seriously started to seep into Bubbles. He was always a very likeable character but I found him incredibly irritating this season.
Have you had a chance to watch the newest TPB movie Don't Legalize it? It's amazing.

I just finished the mini-series Olive Kitteridge. One of the best things I've seen in a while. The film Nightcrawler was also very good. I'd recommend going to see that.
