Weren't you supposed to be arguing for Morrowind?

I'm not arguing anything? I like both games and they both have good and bad points. I just like Morrowind a bit more, that's all.

My other favourite RPG is £2.

That is definitely worth it. If only to hear a guy shout "WINGS OF FIRE" two minutes in.

If you live in Europe and own a PS3 or a Vita (or a PSP I guess) there's a pretty nice PS1 game sale going on.

I'm thinking of buying the Spyro trilogy. I've heard playing PS games on the Vita is bad for the screen though. Can anyone confirm or bust that myth for me?

Absolutely fine for me, it frames either side of the screen a bit to retain the ratio. (Abe's Oddysee played for numerous hours) and I haven't had a problem.

Also would Sony release the ability to play PS games on Vita if it had the potential of damaging your screen? Think how many consoles they'd have to replace.

I think the issue people are panicking about is burn-in which would be present for every game, not just PS1.

I have bought quite a lot of PS1 games for the Vita and no problems really, they play fine. Only thing that might annoy someone is the awkward default controls they have in certain games (rear touchpanel used instead of L2/R2), but the controls can be mapped however you want.

For instance, in Abe's Oddysee, instead of using the rear touchpanel for chanting and running and whatnot, I mapped those things into the right analog stick (push the stick up and move to run, push the stick down and move to sneak) and it worked fine so you can customize the controls if you're having trouble getting used to the default ones they give you.

I really like that about the Vita, in every PS1 game (not sure about PSP games, have not bought any yet) you can basically customize everything; the resolution/how it fits on the screen, controls, bi-linear filtering, analog/digital mode etc.

If it crops the screen though then there’s probably some cause for concern, although it‘s probably only an issue if you play for hours on end on a regular basis.

I had a weird blur effect that happened on my PSP sometimes. I think it was more to do with certain games rather than PS1 games though, as I've played Magic Carpet and Theme Hospital and they were fine. Only problem is my thumbstick's knackered. Thank gosh I can use the d-pad though.

Well, here we go.

In the spirit of the season, I've increased my price cap from £3-ish to £4-ish.

I considered Rush Bros., but ultimately decided against it. We're only one day in, after all.

Fair warning, the Steam servers are unpredictable as fuck right now. Took me about an hour to actually buy anything, and I’m hearing anecdotal evidence of people’s credit cards getting declined.

That said, go buy Hotline Miami. I bought it* and it’s awesome.

For those who think my opinion is important (yes, I'm looking at you), I agree that Hotline Miami is great and you should get it. I think it's a little short though. I've played for two hours and I think I'm at 50% of the game. It's still dirt-cheap and worth it.

Yeah, mine kept getting declined, but I was also getting a lot of busy server errors, so I wondered if it was just failing to process the transaction.

Half a dozen failed transactions later (having to refill my cart each time), I just went through PayPal instead, since they handle everything bankside. Worked first time.

In the meantime, I also managed to add two more games to my cart. MARKETING PLOY

Anyone want to trade their Summer Sale cards if you have any doubles or something? I have Football Manager and Chivalry double.

I've seen a few games I kinda want going reasonably cheaply. I just can't justify spending any money right now when I have to save up for more important things. I'm sure they'll be on sale again soon enough.

Got a duplicate Skyrim card.

What are the cards for anyways? Do you get anything for getting whole sets?

With a full set you can craft badges which give you XP which raises your Steam Level which is... useless. It's just a gimmicky thing really for those who like to collect and show off. And some people are honestly convinced they can turn a profit by selling the cards on the Steam marketplace for a whopping 20 cents a pop. Buy low, sell high, that sort of stuff. Maybe by the end of the year they can turn a 10 dollar profit.

I can see the appeal of collecting, but I'm not entirely sure I get the whole trading card thing considering they're not physical objects... Bit like the TF2 hats. But whatever floats people's boats.

I got Bioshock Infinite (which is awesome - Was worth the wait for a sale) and Fez (which is also really awesome and fun once you get your head around it - I love the retro atmosphere. Just don't swap ESC and RETURN as menu options in your keyboard config, it didn't like that).

I want more games (Endless Space looked fun) but I forgot to refill my PayPal account (direct debit takes time if other transfer options don't work with your bank). Got the same problem as MM with credit card payments and busy servers. But then it's not like there won't be other Steam sales.

I was talking to dripik earlier, to swap one of my three Gordon Freemans for one of his three City 17 Metrocopseses. My two cents about the trading cards is that Valve want Steam users to talk to each other more. Because every conversation about cards has a possibility of turning into "SO YOU'RE PLAYING GAME X HUH YEAH GAME X IS PRETTY GOOD I HEARTILY ENDORSE SPENDING Ft2000 ON IT".

Besides, getting players emotionally invested in the platform is a sure-fire way to guarantee repeat business.

The most tangible reward you can get as a collector is a naff background for your profile. Which you could just buy for 10p on the market and sidestep the entire process.

I think it's 50-50 between encouraging social interaction and encouraging people to buy stuff. The Summer Sale is a good example because it would be a real challenge to get the level 5 summer badge without spending quite a bit of money in the Steam store. You only get about 1.5 badge worth of cards for free from voting. From there on it's from buying stuff.

Other game cards are often sold for TF2 keys or gift games or trough the marketplace. Either way Valve takes a cut. Pretty smart actually.

All that surprises me is how quickly people jumped on board. They've existed for barely a month, and people want to buy them. With money.
